RAW question11 Sep 2005 21:11 GMT21
I'm not familiar yet with RAW photos but am familiar with jpegs.  I've
read that RAW is highly editable for photo touch ups but using a
program like photoshop or paint shop, isn't jpegs just as editable for
photo touch ups?  I realize that the jpeg is compressed so I guess the

Using my new camera, I did some experiments
to explore the camera's colordepth.
My preliminairy conclusion is that the camera

Promaster FTD 5600 flash - why does not work as Sunpak 383 or Vivitar 283.?11 Sep 2005 19:56 GMT1
Greetings! I have the Promaster 5600 Flash which our local photo dealer
sells. God knows who makes these flashes. It works with my Kodak Dx
5490 but not with Canon 300D. Does any other member of this newsgroup
have this flash?
No. of Bits in 20D A/D converter?11 Sep 2005 18:44 GMT6
Folks,
RAW files from the Canon 20D seem to imply that the A/D conversion
from the sensor is 8 bits (RAW file ~8 Mbytes). Yet I thought I read
somewhere that there is a 12 or bit or some such converter?
Is this unretouched?11 Sep 2005 18:41 GMT8
This photo appeared in Stern Magazine site in Germany. It's got a
copyright notice on it, and I've even contacted the photographer
directly from her site, but no answer yet. It's...well...stunning
photojournalism.
Help repairing photo -scanner fault11 Sep 2005 14:57 GMT7

I'd finished did I discover that there is a fault with the scanner, and
I can't easily borrow the photos again.
There are stripes of different 'greyness', approx 2 cm wide accross the
Need new CRT suggestion11 Sep 2005 11:25 GMT9
My CRT is fading, so I need a new one. I'll be starting color managed
work flow with CS2 and creating professionally printed photographic
products, including framed enlargements. I'll probably go with a
19-inch, and I have $200-$500 to spend.

Tripod for my backpack?11 Sep 2005 01:27 GMT3
I've search the web and newsgroups and know there's a wide range of opinions
on compact, lightweight tripods.
I'm going out west and don't  expect my treks to be as easy as on the flats
of Florida. So I'm looking for something very light and small enough to fit

Which Lens?10 Sep 2005 23:50 GMT9
I'm going to be attending an event in late Oct similar to Mardi Gras. The
shooting will be of individuals in close quarters with low light conditions.

28-135 IS & EF 50 1.8. Will either of these lenses ...
