Black Sun? Photos of Sun with digital camera question.22 Sep 2005 07:21 GMT6
Someone posted a video and some stills they took using a Umax Astrapix
610 and it looks like the Sun is blocked out by a mask making it appear black.
They are in alt.binaries.svcd if anyone is interested. I never dared point my
camera at the Sun, so I have never seen this before. ...

Wanted: advice on monitor for photo editing.22 Sep 2005 02:39 GMT33
I'm in dire need of a new faster computer for digital photo work.
I was planning on getting a PowerMac G5 ( but now I'm hearing
rumors of new systems coming out soon, so I may wait a month or so ).
I'm not so concerned about the computer itself, but of the monitor.
Canon 200mm f2.8/L vs. 70-200mm f/4L22 Sep 2005 01:54 GMT2
Folks,
These two lenses are roughly the same price. Outside of the obvious

terms of image quality what is your take? I have seen good reports on

Slave flash question (re preflash)21 Sep 2005 21:48 GMT4
I have a Canon S1 and use it outdoors primarily in point and shoot

flash is effective for a mere +/- 12 feet, I'd like to set up a couple
of slaves to illuminate distant parts of large rooms. However, the

In my limited experience, I find that Dpreview is good, but "Steve's
Digicams" is a bit too optimistic about image quality.
I'd like to hear what sites other folks like.
Shutter Durability21 Sep 2005 20:56 GMT7
I want to transfer my family's 8mm film to video in high definition.
I've thought about using a digital camera, but I'm afraid it won't be
economical due to shutter durability.  Do any of you know if there are
any cameras available that use an electronic shutter and no other
