DSLR Reliability15 Jun 2005 22:25 GMT11
I am in the market for a 'mid-range' DSLR having been a film photographer
for some 50 years or so.
My perception is, from reading various comments, that almost all the current
DSLR's appear to have problems of one kind or another, requiring the camera

350d RAW + large15 Jun 2005 20:32 GMT5
I've set my 350d to shoot RAW + Large.  When I download the files I was
expecting to get a RAW (.CR2) and a JPG file, instead I get 2 x JPGS.
Is this what is supposed to happen?  How do I "fiddle" with the RAW image?
Thanks
Using 512MB XD card in an Olympus C-740?15 Jun 2005 19:22 GMT1
Officemax was offering what seemed like a good deal on 512MB XD cards;
$49 after rebate.  So I bought one and popped it into my Olympus C-740.
It says it has a capacity to take over 600 exposures, so I assume it is
talking to the card.  But a friend said that the manual for the ...
Comments on HP Photosmart 635?15 Jun 2005 18:44 GMT1
I was thinking of getting an HP Photosmart 635 for each of my girls (11
and 9 years old), as their first digital cameras. A local camera store
has them on sale for $79.00US. They also have 256MB SD cards on sale for
$30, and (4) rechargeable batteries and charger for $10. Seems ...

Non IS or IS Lens???15 Jun 2005 09:57 GMT18
This is aimed more or less at Sports Photographers...
I understand I need f2.8L  Lens' to shoot under floodlights.
I am weighing the odds on price difference as I  need a lens that will cope
while shooting football matches under 'Floodlights'.
Party lens (Canon)15 Jun 2005 09:29 GMT18
Due to some minor brain damage I am now looking at buying an IS lens for my
20D.  I am currently taking lots of shots at parties, engagements etc and
get generally good results as I can use tripod for a lot of shots, however,
I need a hand held option to get those particularly ...
Best SD card reader?15 Jun 2005 09:24 GMT3
Hi, I bought a camera which uses SD cards and was wondering which
brand/model of card reader works best? The shops around here sell "Dazzle
Hi-Speed" readers, but I've heard mixed reviews about these. Any
recommendations?

HP ScanJet 6100C & Windows XP15 Jun 2005 08:32 GMT5
Is anyone successfully using an HP 6100-class SCSI scanner with Windows

1.  The Microsoft WIA scanner application (bundled with WinXP) works
fine.    (I can scan successfully with this app.)
10MP Digital for $150.00?15 Jun 2005 08:29 GMT11
On a hobby group I follow a fellow recently posted a message that he
bought a 10MP digital camera on eBay for $150.00!   My reply was that I
had seen 10MP cameras ads in Popular Science or Polular Mechanics
magazines, by Bell & Howell.  The camera is a credit card sized model
Almost 40 years ago ..15 Jun 2005 08:16 GMT6
Last night, drowsily watching Discovery's "Daily Planet", there was
mention of a project to digitize photos made of the moon 40 years ago by
two satellites launched in the 60's prior to (and in preparation for)
the Apollo missions.
D50 vs D70 Image Sensor Performance15 Jun 2005 06:17 GMT1
In a recent DP Review article, it states
"The only key difference between the D50 and D70 from an image pipeline
point of view is that the image processing algorithm has now been tweaked to
improve rendition of highlight detail (to clip less and have a softer
