50mm lens still valuable on DSLRs?12 Mar 2005 14:37 GMT23
Just inquiring for thoughts and opinions on this.  Whether its Canon or
Nikon or whatever seems 50mm lense with great f-stops (usually f1.8) are
cheap and sharp.  But are they still valuable on DSLRs?  Concerns being crop
factors (1.5X or 1.6X) and also the convenience and ...
Canon G6 Successor...any idea on timeframe or specs?12 Mar 2005 07:32 GMT3
I'm looking at a new digicam to replace my aging Oly D490 and the Canon G6
seems closest to fitting the bill. I thas been out awhile now, so I was
wondering if anyone has any heads-up on a follow-up to it...when and what it
will be like. Trying to figure the right time to either ...

Greeting all, I'm new to this newsgroup, so please cut me some slack
if I ask any obvious newbie questions.
I am considering buying a waterproof case for my Canon S1 IS, but
before doing so, I wanted to see if anyone else owned this product,

something unethical? Anything to be done about it. I wonder if there is a
[Maxxum 7D] Dimage RAW Viewer v. Adobe Raw Plugin12 Mar 2005 04:18 GMT3
According to Phil Askey (dpreview), the quality of images obtained via
the Dimage Viewer RAW converter is not as good as that provided by the
Adobe Raw plugin.
Has anyone else made comparisons between the two?

D70 Kit Lens12 Mar 2005 01:12 GMT5
Am I the only one who thinks that the provided lens in the Nikon D70
outfit isn't always sharp?
It isn't that I never get sharp images from it, but it seems that the
scene has to be very bright.
Test of RAW converters11 Mar 2005 23:49 GMT13
This PDF is a reprint of an article in the Feb 2005 issue of the
British magazine "Digital Photo" which tests seven different RAW
converters and ranks them.
Capture One LE was judged the best, with 5 stars.  Photoshop Elements
Best digital photograhy magazine?11 Mar 2005 20:32 GMT10
I've been looking lately at the various digital photography magazines.
Most of them (particular the ones published in the U.S.) are basically
shills for the camera companies.
The only one which I found that appeared to seriously address
photo management software for Macs (OS X)11 Mar 2005 20:18 GMT13
What programs are Mac OS X users using for managing their photos?
A friend was using iPhoto, and he cropped an image (intending to zoom)
and when he moved on to the next image in the directory iPhoto
automatically overwrote the original!  Fortunately this wasn't an
Need advice on how to save scanned photos11 Mar 2005 19:58 GMT5
I’m scanning old snapshots for CD archiving with the intention of later
printing- and maybe some editing.  The output type on my scanner is
.jpg, and scanned resolution of 300.  I’ve been scanning a couple to a
few pictures at a time, then copy and paste them into new individual

PBase and Flickr11 Mar 2005 19:02 GMT6
I noticed that many people on this NG use PBase to share photos.  Flickr
seems to have similar capabilities but there's no charge because of the
Google ads - I guess.  I didn't find the ads annoying.
I'm looking for a good photo sharing site that offers privacy and is simple
