Do you use CD or DVD for archiving?25 Feb 2005 16:44 GMT15
Do you archive your images on CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-/+R, or DVD-+RW?  Why?
Which is better?  Which is likely to last longer before rotting?  Or
are there other problems that can arise.
My 30 year old negatives can still be printed.  Will I be able to
Agfa T1200 as ultra-cheap 6x6 (MF) solution??? Or alternatives???25 Feb 2005 16:28 GMT1
I've just introduced myself into the 6x6-world by buying a Yashica TLR
(635); now I'm looking for a cheap solution to digitize the captures
from the Yashica.
There are a few interesting offers at the moment, one of them is an
SD vs CF25 Feb 2005 16:11 GMT65
Not that this really matters, but it seems to me that SD cards are at
least as good as CF cards, and are perhaps even faster. Lexar for
instance launched a 60x SD card, and SD cards are available in
capacities of at least 1GB (maybe more). Add to this that SD cards are

NYC Central Park by Christo I have posted a series of short

Optimal size of photosensor25 Feb 2005 13:55 GMT23
For a fixed number of pixels, larger sensors give greater sensitivity. I
read somewhere that due to "other factors" the optimal sensor size was
not 35 mm format (24 m x 36mm) but rather something about 2/3 this size.
Does anyone know of a web site that discusses this "optimal ...

WIA event to open folder with explorer (or other)25 Feb 2005 12:45 GMT1
if I right click , Properties on the camera while it's powered and plugged into USB, I can
chose from a few WIA events. All of the automagic offerings are fumbly or worse, so i now
have WIA do nothing at connection.
From among those offerings, I can choose a folder for the Win ...
Nikkor 50mm f1.8 ...absolutely the best buy for digital25 Feb 2005 12:40 GMT18
I can't say how great this lens is for copy work on a D100.
It is by far the sharpest lens for cheap bucks that Nikon makes. Buy one. A
great value.

Ricoh Caplio R1V Review25 Feb 2005 10:19 GMT3
Just letting you know that Shuttertalk has published a review of the
Ricoh Caplio
R1V - a 5 megapixel compact digicam with a wide angle 4.8x optical zoom
lens.   The R1V also boasts one of the fastest (if not the fastest)

inverters25 Feb 2005 05:53 GMT8
Does anyone have any experience with using an inverter (12Vdc to 120Vac) as
a power source for a charger for Li-ion batteries for digital cameras?
I am unable to get any information as to whether the inverter would have to
be a true sine wave type or whether a modified sine wave ...
camera in car in summer25 Feb 2005 05:41 GMT40
I've looked around a bit and haven't seen much on this subject.  Back
when I was shooting film, the idea of having a camera in a parked car
during summer seemed like a very bad idea since I figured the film
might not like the heat.
Elementary Question re: Canon ZR-85 Camcorder25 Feb 2005 04:53 GMT1
I recently purchased a Canon ZR-85 and would like to obtain an IEEE
1394 cable.  Unfortunately, so far I've had a hard time getting a clue
as to WHICH cable to purchase.  I believe I need a 4-pin model, but the
Canon website refers to a "special" 4-pin connector.
telescope adapter for digital compact.25 Feb 2005 04:20 GMT6
I'm trying to persuade myself to buy a Sony DSC-P150 or P200?
It just occured to me that I'd like to be able to attach it to my telescope
(Meade ETX90), either for bird watching, or even basic astronomical photos.
I'm sure I've seen an adapter for sale somewhere.
Sony DSV-v3 NIB?25 Feb 2005 03:16 GMT2
I just recieved my Sony DSC-V3 via the nice guy in the Brown truck.  I
carefully opened the package, pulled out the camera box and cut the
'factory' tape.  Chit, three layers of 'factory (sony marked) tape'.
So needless to say, I'm now wondering why the camera box was resealed
