Photographing the skeleton of a leaf05 Feb 2005 19:03 GMT9
I saw an amazing photograph of a leaf skeleton in a photography
magazine this month (in the UK).  The photographer explained how he put
a leaf in a solution of salt and baking soda and after a couple of
months all is left is the skeleton of the leaf.
LCD05 Feb 2005 18:32 GMT3
I am thinking of replacing my Sony Multiscan 500PS with Sony PremierePro
SDM-P234/B. I have read some reports that it has slight issues with
color continuity, color noise and also common LCD issues like not deep
enough black, etc. Would I be happy with such a move?
Burning DVDs05 Feb 2005 17:04 GMT12
Is there a difference in archival quality between DVDs?  I want to make sure
that when I burn my images for storage/backup that I don't run into
long-term problems with quality or lost data.  Are the more expensive disks
better?  One manufacturer over the others?

After I spent an hour going through the menu to use movie mode, I noticed that
I couldnt get my caera to work quite right in still mode.  One thing, the

Google pushing Picasa - reviews?05 Feb 2005 16:53 GMT41
What is the story on this image sorting
software? Does it do anything other programs
don't, and are there any privacy concerns
regarding it?
Curves: white eyedropper corrects overall contrast - sometimes!05 Feb 2005 16:26 GMT5
I am working hard to familiarise myself with Curves in Photoshop!
I have found that with some photos, clicking the light eyedropper on a
white object in the photo makes the whole picture 'spring to life' with
a nicely brightened picture and overall well adjusted contrast. I wish
How can I disable auto-launch of Picture It!05 Feb 2005 14:56 GMT2
In XP, whenever I download pictures from my camera using the Import
Pictures Wizard, Picture It! is automatically launched afterwards. Is
there a way to disable this?
Thanks,
Any photos voting software out there?05 Feb 2005 10:48 GMT2
I am after a voting software (free would be best of course).
We are ~90 enthusiast at my work and a best picture voting tool/software
would be great. We would like to put together a calendar of our best photos.
I do not which to use an Internet based system.

Normally I wouldn't mention of the photos being digital, but in this case it
made a difference for me - a negative difference in case of some captures.
camera recomendation05 Feb 2005 09:16 GMT12
I'm looking for a camera that I can connect to a PC and capture images by
software without needing to use the internal memory.  Almost like web cam, but I
have only seen web cams with 640x480 resolution, giving me an effective 0.3MP
resolution.  I don't need hi-res camera, but ...
Top 5 Point & Shoot 5MP Cameras???05 Feb 2005 09:00 GMT15
Is there a consensus of the top 5 Point and Shoot 5MP Cameras and in
what order would they be rated.  Please specify model since one mfg may
make more than one camera in this class.
Canon IP4000 Pixma Cartridge query05 Feb 2005 08:52 GMT1
We recently got this printer and we like it. We are new to digital
cameras/printing, so we have some elementary questions:
Question: how will we know when one of the cartridges is empty? Will the
printer flash and indicate which cartridge? Will it indicate on the
Best UK price for Canon 20d05 Feb 2005 06:52 GMT14
I'm intending to buy a 20D camera shortly (with 18-55mm lens kit), and
wonder if anyone here could point me to a UK site with good prices?
There seems to be a wide variance in those I have checked - anything
from about 1,049 UKP to 1,300 UKP. Quite a difference!
Nikon D70 vs. Canon 20D05 Feb 2005 06:17 GMT22
<begin rant>
Is it just me, or do the users of these two cameras (you will note that I
use the D70) lately seem to be digital photography's equivalent of AOL?
<end rant>
