| Just bought a Canon 300D | 07 Feb 2005 06:50 GMT | 21 |
Right, this is my first 'proper' digital camera, what would you recommend I do to get used to it? Just take a few photos and learn from what's wrong, play with the settings etc, or do you have any sites that would help me learn the basics?

| Canon 20D detail? | 07 Feb 2005 06:42 GMT | 7 |
I was reading the test reports on DP Review, and one of the test shots doesn't seem to make sense. In the Maxum 7D test, on the "studio scene comparison" page, take a look at the red flower petals. There seems to be much more detail in the petals in the Minolta shot than the 20D ...

| AOL discontinuing Newsgroup access ! | 07 Feb 2005 06:04 GMT | 6 |
AOL has informed users that in early 2005 that service will stop access to Newsgroups. Bummer. Sure, I can get to Newsgroups using the new Google "Groups" feature or thru IE.....but the AOL format for Usenet is much easier to read and manage. Send AOL a nasty email if this ...

| Shooting Aspect 16:9 | 07 Feb 2005 04:17 GMT | 1 |
Now that I have a largescreen HDTV I would like to display my photos on this screen in the best way. I would like to batch process my photos into 16:9 format but when I do this the results are not acceptable. Apparently when I originally framed the photos using the 4:3 viewfinder ...

| Problems with an older Sony Mavica | 07 Feb 2005 03:42 GMT | 2 |
My old Sony Mavica has trouble finding the floppy when inserted. Sometimes I have to put it in and eject it over and over, and sometimes banging on it helps before it recognizes the disk. Anybody else have this problem? Any simple solutions? I still like the camera, and would ...

| ZIP Photos | 07 Feb 2005 03:37 GMT | 6 |
I have a 4MP camera. When I ZIP photos to make them small enough to e-mail they really don't go down in size all that much. How much of a difference should ZIPPING make? Thanks

| Newbie: Please help | 07 Feb 2005 03:10 GMT | 10 |
For producing images for emailing at 1024x768 is it best to ensure that my camera takes them at this resolution or should I take them at 2048x1536 and then batch compress them? In the latter case, is the resulting image of better quality or equal?

| Droolware - What and why? | 07 Feb 2005 01:33 GMT | 21 |
Just wondering. What photographic equipment do you drool at and why? I went thru the review of the Leica Digilux-2 today and TOTALLY drooled over it. Why? Because I have been missing a P&S (although describing the Lecia as a P&S isn't totally appropriate) with nice manual features

| Took some pictures today... | 06 Feb 2005 23:41 GMT | 10 |
I took some pictures today. Captured them in RAW format then had to of course compress them to put them online. I selected "vivid" image filtering through the camera's settings. Well, some just don't look "normal" to me...almost too sharp. Maybe I should have softened them up a ...

| Spot on 20D Image | 06 Feb 2005 22:43 GMT | 4 |
I have a new Canon 20D and took it out for a test run. I noticed a small dark smudge on each image in the same location. http://webpages.charter.net/rflohr/034.jpg Here is a link for a sample image. Not a huge deal to clean up in an image
