I have been using a 3.2 MP still and a 640x480 mini dv camcorder (with no firewire out!) for the past 5 years or so. I'd like to upgrade to a high quality still camera with 640x480 30fps capability, so I can get rid of carrying around two devices.

Looks like mega pixel war is on, everyone making cameras with more and more pixel rating. What is considered minimum mega pixel rating necessary for general family use. Or is it the case of "the more, the better"? I have a hand-me-down Powershot G3 and am learning on it.

OK, got my Olympus Evolt with enough lenses for my needs. I have had P&S digital cameras (have two now), but mostly snapshooting with them. When I used film, I always enjoyed black and white photography. I used to develop and print when I could.
