"Chicken skin" effect when scanning b/w images10 Feb 2005 02:46 GMT9
I have an ancient cheap Acer scanner that works just fine for me the
few times I need it.
The one thing it does miserably though is scanning black and white
photos out of books.  I've tried scanning pictures from old high
Need help selecting budget digital camera...10 Feb 2005 02:30 GMT3
I need help selecting a camera that will be used primarilty to take
pictures of items that I want to sell on ebay.  I typically sell
medium sized items such as guitars, monitors, and such.  There is no
need for the pictures to be highly detailed.  What camera should I
Coolpix 5400.10 Feb 2005 01:53 GMT1
I have a Coolpix 5400 which I use with 256MB Viking Interworks CF cards.
I seem to have quite a few problems reading/writing and just losing all
the pictures on the card or suddenly wants formatting. Is it the camera
or is it the cards. I've written a number on each one to see if ...
Hoodman09 Feb 2005 22:50 GMT4
There's a gadget called a "Hoodman" -- it's a black flip-up cover for the
LCD on your digital camera.  I got it for my D70s and found it looks cool,
but makes it a slight nuisance to refer to the histogram.  However in very
bright daylight, it helps a lot to shadow the screen.  ...

To any of you interested, you can now get the D70 + lens kit for £749
(Jessops) or £729 (Jacobs).  With the £100 rebate direct from Nikon
UK on top of this, the price is now highly competitive against grey
imports.
making big GIFs and little GIFs09 Feb 2005 21:00 GMT6
How do I scan a map to a GIF so that when I view the GIF file at its
"normal" size it is a maginification of the original.
In other words, what took one inch in the original document now takes
1.5 inches in the GIF at its normal size.

Alternatives to Ofoto.com?09 Feb 2005 20:54 GMT4
I've been using Ofoto.com to make online albums that friends and family
around the country can check out.  Lately I've noticed that the quality of
their online images has deteriorated to the point where I don't want to use
them anymore.  Does anybody know of any good alternatives?
Re:help please! recovery of digital pictures on smart media card09 Feb 2005 20:51 GMT2
I have 2 pictures disappeared from my smart media card on my Olympus

Is this why my camera can't do raw?09 Feb 2005 19:28 GMT2
I have a cheapo Kodak CX7300, anyway I know it captures to intermedia
bmp files on the memory, so that it can snap away while still
processing the last file.
But there's no mode to just keep the bmp file for maybe special

I'm considering this as a backup for my Canon Digital Rebel. It's a
consumer-grade 4 megapixel P & S camera.
Obviously I wouldn't consider it in the same grade as cameras like the Nikon
Coolpix 5400 or 5700, Canon Powershot G3, but if it's in the same league as

Hello - our local girlscouts group have a project they fill out items
