Canon Digital Rebel: a low-light point and shoot?13 Jan 2005 16:19 GMT7
I'm a big fan of the P&S mode of photography, but I'm not a big fan of
P&S cameras. I own a Canon S400 which is great for carrying everywhere,
but like all cameras with small sensors, it doesn't do too well in low
light conditions.

Hematite like surface for pastry photography13 Jan 2005 14:43 GMT9
I am now setting up a shoot of my family business's European style
sweets and chocolates. A couple of photo's I found on the net used a
Hematite like surface for cookie photo's. It created a very crisp
contrast without stealing the aesthetic of the subject.

Film Scanning13 Jan 2005 14:14 GMT1
I have an Espon 4180 flatbed film scanner that I am happy with.  I am
scanning Fuji negative film at 24bit - 3200 dpi.  I then edit and crop
the results in Photoshop.  Sometimes I crop a horizontal photo to print
as a portrait.  In that instance the cropping is severe.
Just Curious - Battery Life Information in LCD13 Jan 2005 13:45 GMT3
Greetings! I have a Sony P-10. It uses Infolethium batteries. In the
LCD it gives the information about the battery life in numbers of
minutes. In my other camera [Kodak Dx6490], I can see the battery
condition but not in such precise way. Does any other Point and Shoot
recommendations for $300 camera 13 Jan 2005 13:22 GMT1
I just gave my RCA VHS camera to my son and daughter-in-law. I was always
pleased with it except for its bulky size. I'd like the groups
recommendations on the best digital video camera in the $300 range. I know
that the more you pay the more you get but the budget is $300.

Happy New Year to all members of this Newsgroup. Where can I find
informations about burning photos to CD from memory cards? I need to
know about the cost of burning pictures from 128 MB or 256 memory
cards. Where will be the best place - Internet cafes or Photostores? I
Monitor Calibration13 Jan 2005 11:17 GMT1
I have just received some prints from Photobox that, although good quality,
do't match what I saw on my screen perfectly. They sent me a calibration
print, and I also have a file that I can open on my computer.
Can someone point me towards a tutorial on how to calibrate my display ...
scan at 300ppi or 4000ppi?13 Jan 2005 09:20 GMT16
Once one knows the final dimensions of the picture (say, A3+), which is
better:-
1) scan at 4000ppi,  process in Photoshop (adjustments, etc.), then
reduce to say 300ppi and A3+ size for printing (and saving?).  This will
Nikon Telephot for D70?13 Jan 2005 09:01 GMT12
I'm looking for recommendations for an affordable telephoto or telephoto
zoom for Nikon.  I would like a good quality lens, but it does not have to
be of the quality of a 80-200 VR f2.8.
Just something I can acquire for $500 or less and will give me good
Help finding the right bulbs13 Jan 2005 07:41 GMT9
I bought a couple of GE 250 watt Photoflood bulbs for my light box and I love
the natural color of them. They have none of that yellow/orange cast that
regular bulbs have. However, they are too bright and they only have a max life
of around 3 hours. Can someone recommend a blub ...
