not used the Canon but we have a 4870 on test and it's good even for 35mm - not quite as sharp as a film scanner, but very acceptable.

I am looking for a scanner for medium format film (colour negative).
I can't afford a Nikon Coolscan LS9000 or a Minolta Dimage Scan Multi, or even an Epson F3200, so I'm looking for a flat-bed scanner with transparency adaptor.
Can anyone comment on the relative merits of the Canon 9900F and the Epson 4870 (which I believe is soon to be replaced by the 4990)?
How sharp are the scans going to be at 4800dpi?
Are there any other scanners I should consider around GBP 300?
Any experience or information anyone can share would be appreciated.
