Jasper - 22 Oct 2007 16:03 GMT Hi,
I have a new website:
http://fotojasper.myphotos.cc
If you want, I'd be pleased if you give critics on photo's and layout.
Thanks in advance,
Jasper http://fotojasper.myphotos.cc

Your pics are : about average for a snap shooter nothing more. And yours are a lot better, right? So why don't I remember seeing them? Ah!! I know! Because I haven't even the least idea who you are. For all I know, you could be the OP, trying to create some buzz about your pix. But if, as seems likely, you're just another sniveling a.shole, why don't you just mosey on?

Newsgroup users hate two things Bob. Trolls and the stooges who give them reason to hang around. I'm pretty sure most of the folks who read this group have the trolls killfiled and never see their posts unless a stooge does the troll's posting by responding. The remedy for that is to killfile the stooge as well.
I can't say that I've read any of your posts until this one but you're being ticked by what the troll posted indicates that you may be an alright kind of guy who reads this group because you have an interest in photography you'd like to share. My guess is, you wouldn't want to be killfiled. Would you Bob?

Why, I bet it's never been done before. This is probably a first, and will go down in cyberspace history as a turning point in web content. I can understand why 'THE ONE' would be so infuriated by this demonstration of improper web etiquette. I mean what is to compare to such a travesty? The 30,000 children who die of starvation every day? the tyrants of the world who enslave a good part of it? These are but inconsequential when compared to the egregious audacity of Jasper to announce his website! I am sure that he is repenting at this very moment.

Infuriated, hmmm, not really. When I see a bad website I tend to say to, rather than telling someone false information, which seems to go on a lot lately, yes and you are a victim also.

Ok ill say your pics are the best i've seen for a long time, thats what you want to hear right, or you wouldn't post on here.
The major thing about digital photography is that any herbert can buy a digital camera and pertend to be the best, the real and unfortunate truth is that you are not and you pictures at present aren't very good and need work.... next..

Some people struggle to learn because they won't ask for or accept advice, because they're unable to distinguish between good and bad advice, or because nobody wants to give them the benefit of advice (perhaps because the person seeking advice is incredibly annoying or offensive, or the person being asked is selfish, insecure or not as clever as he thinks).

Rob Morley - 26 Oct 2007 09:35 GMT > Some, err, most people these days need a boot up the arse, to know thier > place rather than cheating everyone including themselves. It must be like I said, that you're right and everyone else is wrong. Surely you feel some responsibility to help these lesser mortals improve themselves, if only so they annoy you less? Unfortunately their limited intellects are unable to extract helpful meaning from phrases like "that's crap", "you're an idiot", despite the divine wisdom which they surely contain.

Shut the f.ck up unless you have something constructive to contribute. That could include telling them /why/ you think it's crap, and backing it up with suggestions for improvement, but that would be straining your brain cell a bit much, wouldn't it?

Wait for the right conditions and wait some more and more and more think about composition. What works and what doesn't. More importantly learn the histogram.
Photography is 90% preparation and 10% sheer hard drudgery, no image will jump at you.

Yes, ugly, skanky women. Clearly, if you want a BJ from Paris Hilton, we know where your tastes run. Not too mention the pimp clothes you purchase on eBay
In terms of contempt, if you review the feedback you have received here I think you rank at the top of the contempt chart (although there are a couple in this thread who are following close in your foot steps).

Or go to your posts and see what I am talking about:

The difference is that you go on and on about your excellent photography, your great skills, and the photos show otherwise.
Let anyone who is interested look and decide.
You can't handle it that you are average, or below average (that is why you are so angry). For me, I don't make any claim to be otherwise.
I am no Paris Hilton, so please don't call me f.ck face. If you are looking for a guy who might meet your Paris fantasy, here are some pictures for you:

>Ok, so, how can I improve? Hi Jasper!
Here's some suggestions on how to improve your photography.
There are many photo sites on the internet that would welcome you into their fold. Many of them are free to join and will even give you a token amount (10meg or so) of space to post your efforts.
The skills of their membership (on a good site) usually range from beginner to pro. They usually have a great sense of community and will, if you ask, critique your work or answer any questions you might have. You can also pick up a lot just from reading the forums. Some sites even offer mini-courses. Most have competitions for their members.
A couple that immediately come to mind are the Photograhy-cafe and the Digital-Darkroom. Discussion is moderated so you won't have to deal with the likes of some of the ass-holes that post in this newsgroup. I'd venture to say that once you find such a site you'll likely never bother with this group again. The ass-holes that post here get as much or more attention than the subject of photography does. That's why I'll be unsubscribing from this group after I post this reply to your query so I won't be around for any follow-up questions you might have or the pointless remarks of the trolls.
You can also find out a lot by simply googling for the various tools you'll find in your image editor. Don't be put off by the fact that most explanations will be for Photoshop as all tools, regardless of the name of the editor, employ the same principles. Or, you could try support groups for your camera and/or image editor.
And last but not least, look at a lot of photography. 'Published' photography is usually the best example of what you might want to try to achieve. Or not, depending on your level of interest.
Hope this helps.
Dave

Or not, depending on your level of interest. Jasper, now all of what is stated here is good advice! You can also think of taking a photography course if you get some recommendations from former students. That doesn't mean you have to take a course to become competent or even that you will become competent, and lots of photographers who are rewarded for their work either monetarily or through exhibitions, praise, etc., never took a course. However, with a teacher and other students--i.e., real live people, they can't or won't make derogatory remarks to you since you are face-to-face with them, and not in an anonymous cyber-reality where anyone can say anything without much fear of retribution. That's why you will find many disaffected, cowardly people responding the way they do in this forum--they don't fear retribution. Where I grew up, if you made statements "in person" the way many do in this disembodied means of communication, you'd get your a.s kicked--and at times, if a foot was not adjudged sufficient, it would be a baseball bat. I joined this group yesterday, and I'm quitting today. I don't have time to waste on this nonesense, and neither should you.

You might learn some things here, but mostly it is a waste of time if you respond or interact with the jerks. When you see the work of some of the jerks here, you realize how deluded they are.

Not4wood - 26 Oct 2007 03:33 GMT Cooverknight,
Just ignore the trolls. There comments are not worth getting frustrated or angry over. You just found this newsgroup, there are a lot of knowledgeable people here that are willing to help. But like real life there are people who dont do anything else but sit and post drivel.
There not worth it.

It is vitally important to get a scene right in camera or as right as can be, Photoshop should be used sparingly to do minor tweaks. Preserve the original scene and don't add the typical PS get outs. Learn the histogram this will be your most expensive tool. Digital has become an excuse to become sloppy these days "I'll sort it out later in Photoshop brigade." When in reality it gives you the tools to become 100% maticolous behind the lens. Afterall you would have to be maticolous when using film to get the scene right, digital gives you the tools to go up and over what film offers. Perfect scenes should be 2 a penny these days, but im not seeing it. People have gotten very, very sloppy indeed. Don't be like the rest keep photography real and keep it pure and most importantly keep it simple. The more processing you do out of the camera will degrade the image no end.
Not4wood - 26 Oct 2007 11:47 GMT The One,
You are actually giving good advice for a change. From what I do see of your comments, this is a rare post for you but impressive.
I know somebody who instead of learning composition and lighting spent most of his time playing with Photoshop and looking to edit out whole areas and or rebuild it to look completely different. When his results didn't bring in rave comments or worthy of hanging on a wall he got angry and huffy and now he barely picks up his camera because he thought "If I pick up a camera, it looks easy I can be the worlds best Photographer". I never heard him once asking or trying to get better. (When I mentioned composition and or lighting he just brushed me off and went back to Photoshop like it was the end to all means). He just put his camera down and never looked backed. He is just not as angry as I've seen others get at either Photography itself or the world for not recognizing his skill. I've seen that several times and to me all the anger doesn't make sense. I've tried speaking to him, and I cant get him to pick up his camera again no matter what I suggest. Oh well. Its a waste but what can you do? He has an Olympus Advanced P&S, really nice camera but I wouldn't want it.

My best advice for 99.9% of DSLR owners would be to bury them in cement, like a hammer the tool is useless in the wrong hands.

Everybody on the planet who has bought a digital camera wants to "get better". So what? Everybody wants to get a blow job from Paris Hilton too. That doesn't mean they're going to get it.

So please read before you answer :)
