Tom - 19 Oct 2007 01:05 GMT Hi guys,
just joined your mailing list :) I need some suggestions about some "upgrade". I'll be in the States in 2 weeks and I'm thinking to buy something there, for europeans it's very cheap now :)
I'm using a canon 350D + canon: 17-40L f/4, 70/200L f/4, 50 f/1.8 and a couple of external flash (canon + metz)
Something I'm thinking about:
Canon 40D (or maybe 30D?) Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM (i would sell my 17-40) Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM (i would sell mine f/4) not sure about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
what do you suggest with a $2000 budget? I've an idea but I'd like to know some our opinions about it.
Thanks a million! Tom
Rob Bradford - 19 Oct 2007 18:17 GMT If you can aford it go for the 40D. I have had use of both and the 40D is the better kit.

All I know is that they're very expensive, and I'm not sure they're all that great. Look at it this way. The Canon 30D was well received and had solid evaluations, as the 20D. I own a 30D and it's great. The Canon 40D shouldn't be all that different. Perhaps you could wait a bit, but if in a bind, don't hesitate. It seems to have everything and more than the 30D. Marcel

I may be misinterpreting your message, but it looks like you're interested in about $5,500 worth of equipment, can sell what you have for maybe $1,500, and have a $2,000 budget. Is that right? Are you only considering some of the lenses?

Thanks, Tom

Canon 40D seems to be a fine model with many good reports about it now. And you can read more at www.dpreview.com
Unless you must have Canon lens or die, else you can check with web page like www.fredmiranda.com (man, I just can't seem to remember this .. so just wait here for me to fire up the web browser to check the name for you.. don't do anywhere.)
www.fredmiranda.com = yup! it's the right one and I copy & paste to make sure.
Also, just the 40D body and 24-70L f2.8 already blew the lid of your $2000 limitation.

Well, if you can't find good enough information from them then I would suggest to stop cuz they may not be the best, but should give more than enough information to make a much bigger decision.
The only other site would be www.google.com but it may upset some user here <bg>
Also, I don't mean to tell you to read their REVIEWS *but* I suggest to READ the *feedbacks* of many end-users

That's what I would do, but it really depends on what you're doing. If you're getting portraits and whatnot, the 24-70 would be a good start. Naturally, keep in mind the crop factor (1.6x) of the 30D and 40D.

Cheers, Tom

The One - 26 Oct 2007 14:20 GMT > Hi guys, > [quoted text clipped - 19 lines] > Thanks a million! > Tom Hi Tom a thorough post at last.
The 40D is the best enthusuiast DSLR on the market at the moment go for it. I'd forget selling the 17-40mm and keep it, as for the 70-200mm i'd defo get a IS version over non IS versions, either way f4 IS would do as non IS f2.8.
As for wide angle Canon 10-22 is fine and again go for it.
