I just discovered that my Nikon D2X has major dust spots.  I need to fix
ASAP because I am going on a photo trip next week.  To clean the sensor I
need the AC adapter, however Adorama and B&H are closed until Oct 7 because
of the feast of Tabernacles!  Is there another reliable internet vendor that
I can order from that will deliver in 2 days or so?

Besides Adorama and B&H I have also worked with Penn Camera, however their
internet ordering is kinda slow.

I am in the state of Virginia, US of A.

Check your yellow pages for a local camera store.

Oh you know I will do so.  However how likely is it they will have such a
power supply?

Well I stand corrected, I went to the Penn Camera store in Vienna, VA and
they had the D2X power supply in stock.

Nikon is a popular and major brand as is Canon. If they don't I would
suspect they aren't all that great of a camera store.

My local pro repair shop does it with the battery, and they know their
stuff.  Methinks Nikon "requires" the AC adapter to ensure the power
won't be lost mid-cleaning.

Personally, I find the repair shop is much better at sensor cleaning
than I am, they only charge $35, and they have it done same-day.  I'd
suggest this route first, unless you want an excuse to buy the AC
adapter and you enjoy tinkering with the camera guts.

http://www.TempeCamera.com may be able/willing to ship you an AC adapter
overnight.  They're a retail store that serves the local pro market.

Radio Shack probably will have something. Take the camera with you and
test in store.

You can open it up with bulb mode (long exposure) with a fresh charged
battery. Try a blower first, then a soft brush; you may not need to do a
wet cleaning. Don't sue me if you fail to figure out what kind of brush :-)

I wouldn't recommend this.  A collegue tried this and killed her sensor.

The bulb setting energizes the sensor, where the cleaning / mirror
lockup mode does not.  In her case, that fact combined with the cold
canned air (or maybe static from it) killed the sensor on the spot.

Canned air isn't a blower, it's a thermal shock disaster waiting to
happen.
