Hello!

I'm planing to buy a Nikon D40 with a kit lens 15-55/f3.5-5.6 (http://
www.foto-oehling.com/cgi-bin/Oehling.storefront/469488b6020d995427400a00011e05cf
/Product/View/157702
)
and one additional lens to cover the range from 55mm up to 200mm.

Now, I have a terrible dilemma between following two lenses:

 1. NIKON AF-S DX VR 55-200/4.0-5.6 G IF ED
       http://www.foto-oehling.com/cgi-bin/Oehling.storefront/FR/Product/160114
       (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?
cat=1&grp=5&productNr=2166)

 2. SIGMA AF 50-150/2,8 APO DC EX HSM
       http://www.foto-oehling.com/cgi-bin/Oehling.storefront/FR/Product/156149
       (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?
id=3318&navigator=6)

Price is different, but it is not primer criterion, I wouldn't mind
spending more if I know why I did it.
Other characteristics of the lens (like optical/mechanical/practical
use etc) are what it IS important for me.

If you have some experience with both of these lenses, please help me
with this decision.
Feel free to recommend the third option, if it exists.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

check out the tamron 28-300, or 18-300 or variations of these... good glass
for the price... Nikon may be good, I am a canon shooter... not impressed
with sigma... kk

I do shoot with Nikon (D80) and I can second the motion about Sigma v.
Tamron lenses.  I have two conventional Tamron lenses and they take much
better photos than the Signma my father has, eventhough his lens costs
about what mine are combined.  I have my eyes on a few of the Dii lenses
by Tamron, but the next lens in my sites is a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4.

Why are you going to buy the 50mm f/1.4? (I ask because I just ordered
it and I don't want to have buyer's remorse...)

Super fast lens I can afford.  Very good reviews.  Good for group/crowd
shots in all kinds of light.

Thanks for the reply. Hope you enjoy the lens.

The Nikon has been getting good reviews, longer reach than the Sigma but not
as fast (aperture-wise) - but it has VRII which should give at least 2 stops
advantage.  And the Nikon is cheap for what you get.
