I am experimenting with ProShow Gold from Photodex.  It is a pretty good
slide show editing program able to output to many files types.

Their "webshow" output is a proprietary output file and requires a plugin
download on first view.

I am curious as to how much of a pain this is to various would be viewers.

If you care to help out, you can go to my site, www.iamgequest.ifp3.com and
after you click "Enter Site" choose slideshows from the menu tab.  There is
one show there to view.

Any and all feedback will be appreciated..

Thanks

Pretty cool site.

I watched the slide show. Took a bit to load, but not excessive. Had
to install the plugin in Firefox first.  I have pro show producer but
have just played with it a few times so far. I thought about the
possibility of putting up a slideshow on the web and thought about the
issue of people having to download the player, and thought it might
put some people off. Producer can output to a flash file and I thought
I would probably go that route as most people have flash as a plugin
already. Does 'gold' have that capability?

Any way, I enjoyed it and glad I watched it.

Cheers.

I don't do web-slideshow but I have been using ProShow Gold to create DVD
slideshow to my clients, family, friends, and parish etc. and ProShow Gold
is my slideshow of choice.  I can give you some general info.

- It works pretty similar to most similar slideshow programs, so you are
pretty much know_one_know_all.  But it has some features/options that
  most others don't have

    - It has large number of screen effects (around 300 or so) to make the
slideshow less boring, and this is one of the main reasons I chose
      ProShow Gold

    - CAPTION is one of the features I don't want to go without, and ProShow
Gold not only have caption but animated captions (it has around 2-3+
    dozens transitions or so).

- Unlike some very earlier VCD slideshow programs those kept the still
images remain still images (no transition but delaying) those gave good
image quality even from poor image and at VCD mode.  ProShow Gold
(and most currents) needs DVD mode to give great quality (without
artifacts which shows on VCD and even SVCD).

- Unlike some who burns directly to CD/DVD, I always save the MPG to hard
drive first then DVD author using DVD author program to

    - Have more option to make the DVD looks great (Menu and Animated Menu
     etc..)

    - And I don't want to waste hours of work because something may happen to
     the burning process.

And just like most if not all others some version may have few small
annoying problems, ot not perfect.  Like the auto safe-zone to keep photos
insize the visible size may not work correctly because of the way the the
program works, so I always make sure to make a quick browse through all
images to make sure all photos are in the safe-zone.

I have seen one created by ProShow Producer (photos were taken by me, but
the slideshow made by my cousin) has one feature I like, but it's too spicy
for me so I continue to use ProShow Gold (or I may overlooked the ProShow
Gold??).  Of course the Producer has lot more features but I don't have to
know much about it.

Thanks Joel, did you know you can upgrade to Producer for $99?

I appreciate your feedback very much, my real curiosity is how the
experience is for the guy on the other end trying to watch an on-line show.
Did you give it a go?

I am very familiar with the DVD authoring features, I just upgraded to 3.0
and have been using the program for a while.

Thanks again!

No, I have only noticed they reduced the full price, but don't pay much
attention to the Producer until few months ago I got the presentation from
my cousin and I like the overlapping feature.  And I am not ready for
Producer (yet)

Not yet! I am in middle of few projects which eating up quite afew CPU,
and the newer ZoneAlarm (not the current latest v7.0.337 which is so bad but
one version older) doesn't do well with CPU (whatever it does making most of
my old aps eating more CPU than before)

It seems loading now .. but seems kinda slow as it still say"transferring
data from imagequest.ifp3.com....." 3 mins and still waiting (I am using
cable modem from COX)

It loads fast for me, it could be network traffic in your area????

Probably because it's already loaded from previous?  I gave up after
nearly 10 mins and will give it another try (unless it won't work with
FireFox?).

BTW, I saw the option to play the "IRAQ SLIDE SHOW"... OK, I just tried
again and noticed FireFox reports

"Firefox prevented this site from opening 3 popup windows"

and I think this may be the reason.

That's it! it was Firefox which prevented the other window to load, I
allow it to open and it's working now.  OK

- The transition is pretty basic and probably best choice for general like
this type of slideshow.

- I always like to listen to different foreign languages, and I really like
the audio

- Caption, I don't know about the web-slideshow but I know the regular has
many different transition effects inclusing scrolling from Top to Bottom,
from Left to Right and many others.

I would think having continuously caption scrolling from bottom to top
instead of one screen at a time then a blank screen in between.

And about the photos, I love natural, emotion (furneral, war photography),
culture, and just about anythign except posing.  And hahaha if I have a pick
either "go to heaven" or "Iraq with camera" (with safety of course) then I
would pick "Iraq with camera" <bg>.  BTW, I like the Iraq photos (haven't
had the chance to look at others yet), and thanks for sharing.

... and may be not, because of the web-slide depends on the speed of
modem, loading time (and ISPs) so it could have longer delay than normal. Or
from the web it has few seconds delay (black screen) between captions.

PZ,

I too have played with the PhotoDex software for slide shows.  Very
nice stuff, transitions, background music, etc, and plenty of export
options.  For the web though it is a pain having to get the
propriatory plug-in.  Though I have not done so my self, you may want
to try doing the same similar thing with Adobe FLASH.  If all you
wanted was a simple slide show, with no fancy transitions or music in
the back ground, Adobe LightRoom has export feature to the web with
slide show options.

You can use DVD Slideshow Builder which is very powerful and very
popular now, many friends and I like it very much. It's very easy to
create a customized DVD slideshow with photos and videos, and to add
music, transitions, and cool pan/zoom effects and make beautiful DVD
menus. Also, you can create .mp4, .wmv, .avi, .3gp movies from videos
in other formats for our iPod, Zune and 3GP Cell Phones, Youtube .etc.

To be important, it has great photo and video editing function that
can meet all our needs. For example, you can perfect your photos with
attractive frames, special mask effects, and rich Cliparts, Wordarts
or Text. And it is easy to crop music to sync with slideshow. You can
use the video edit function to trim the video, add the caption and
frame to the video, and change the original audio with your favorite
music, etc.

You can download it free here
