This News Group is morphing to nothing more then "see my web site" or "I've posted new
photos".

That's not what the Charter supports nor was the intention in creating this News Group.

If you want to show off photos, go to a Binaries News Group and post them.

So lets get back to discussing photography, photographic techniques and the periphery used.

If all you want to do is post a web site, its nothing but spam to get "hits" on your web
site.

BRAVO and well said Dave!

"If you want to show off photos, go to a Binaries News Group and post

Or any other one of the scads of sites!

"So lets get back to discussing photography, photographic techniques

I agree.

"If all you want to do is post a web site, its nothing but spam to get
"hits" on your web site."

You can get more hits by changing the meta tags on your web pages so
search engines will better find you OR register with multiple search
engines OR, better yet, register with The Open Directory Project
(dmoz.org).

Hi,

Posting photos can be a good opening for discussion of photography but
members would be more thoughtful about their images.

Here are a few things that I would appreciate:

First don't post a whole gallery.  Who has time for that?  It can
take several minutes to examine someone's photo.  Two or three
pictures are plenty.
Second don't post anything you don't care enough about to explain
your setup, lighting and camera.
Third write a paragraph or so of what you are trying to convey with the
photo.  This can be on an emotional or mechanical level.

I completely agree that all postings should be with the intentions of
discussing photography.

Thanks,
Ron

Hi!

I did post a "see my web site" post. Just becouse i'm wanted to get a
more detailed analysis from my pic's.
I was at deviantart, and after a year i got less technical comment than
from Ron after 2 day's... So maybe we should create a place for this
"see my web site" or "I've posted new photos" with strict rules how
should someone post their link's.

Sometimes when I have extra time I like to read through the archive of
this group, this group has a lot of really smart and generous members.
You should see some of the threads that discus art.  I guess they have
become so jaded by self promoters, dipsh#ts and spammers who really do
not care about photography that is difficult to get them to engage.
Probably if I were not relatively new to the group and so enthusiastic
about photography then I would be turned off too.  Someone in the group
needs to grow a beard.

Brgds,
Ron

August 31, 2006, from Lloyd Erlick,

This is a steam shovel solution for a trowel
problem.

Even trolls get less effort than this.

Everyone with a new website or new pictures
on view should just continue to let everyone
else know, as usual! Strict rules would just
be ignored, as usual. Anyway, pictures by
people who follow the rules ...

regards,
