Just to keep it simple, with CS2, select the crop tool, enter each of
the dimensions you need, then click on the crop tool preset icon on the
left of the tool bar. This will give you a drop down menu of preset
crops. On the right of this menu you will see two more icons. Click on
the lower one to create a new preset, a new window will open and you
can name it (8x10 in 300dpi for eg.) then crop to your heart's content.

Perfect! It works, just what I needed.
Thank you for your help.
I have done some searching, and have a rudimentary understanding of pixels
to print resolution to print size relationship. Does anyone have any links
to some table or chart with this information?

Careful with that method because if you pick a window smaller than the
target size, it'll upscale the result. To crop exact pixels, use the
rectangular selection marquee with fixed size & pull down crop from the
image menu. If you mostly want to downscale a partial crop, set up both
& drop the selection on to get a ballpark idea so you don't go too small.
Batch in PS can get kind of messy to set up. Irfanview is fast & sort of
simple if you just need quick results. I used irfan to crop a time lapse
movie once & it was perfect for that.
