I'm a student in a college class. I've been assigned by my professor
to ask all of you in this group for your favorite place in the world to
participate in taking pictures. Where is your favorite place to take
pictures at and what is it like??
Thank you!!!

Favorite place? Where ever I find myself. If I'm home I try to take photos
of things that make Florida unique, if I'm someplace else I take photos of
things that I don't see at home.
It's also fun/challenging to shoot sporting events.

Awesome. Can you tell me about an experience you had while taking
pictures in Florida?

Hmm.. I never thought of having an experience. I just go someplace, take
some photos, come home and kick my self for taking so many crappy ones, then
post them on the web and let my friends tell me what a great guy I am.

Kelly: The best place I ever was at for taking pictures was Hawaii. I was
in the Navy and so I had a lot of time to explore the nooks and crannys of
the place. However, one thing I have discovered largely from when I was
taking my NYIP course was that there are all sorts of places, even with in
one mile of your house that are worth taking pictures of. The magazines and
travel shows will try to tell you that you need to go half way around the
world to get good shots. There is beauty all over and whether it is new
babies or gals in the latest fashions or what ever, it is probably right
next door. The trick is to train your eye to find it. Ric in Wisconsin.

I tend to prefer to take pictures rather than 'participate in taking
pictures'.

Hong Kong has to be my fav.
I don't know anywhere you can be shooting modern city skylines, walk a few
streets away and find old chinese medicine shops or a chinese temple.. Take
a bus ride and you can photograph Pandas and Dolphins.
Take a ferry and you are in countryside.
All this and you feel perfectly safe, I have been to HK 3 times and felt
safer there than I do in the UK.

I second that. Been there five times, average of a couple months each
time, have thousands of images, from fishing villages, ruins, country
parks, ancient trails, city gardens, temples, people, buddhas, central
metropolis, ornate buildings, costumes, fabulous new year celebrations,
firework displays, huge buses, street people, picturesque islands,
magnificent sunsets, you name it. Safe as a church, friendly people,
catch their eye and they smile at you, unlike home where if you catch
someones'e eye you are likely to get bashed.
Next time can't come too soon.

My girlfriend and I try to get to Manhattan once a year to do photography.
This year...since my daughter is getting married at about the time we go to
NY...
we will be skipping Manhattan. It turned out to be a blessing in
disguise...as we realized that outrown town
(Milwaukee) is certainly as great a photo opportunity as NY. It made me
realize that *anyplace* you are
is a great photo opportunity...it's just a matter of realizing it.

2 places...Kauai, Hawaii...lived on Oahu in the 80's while in the
service and just partied and paid no attention to the beauty...took my
wife there in '96 and managed to shoot 76 rolls of film in 12 days.
Poipu Beach was an awesome place to watch the sunsets...I shot every
sunrise and sunset while we were there, Oahu, Kona and Kauai.
#2 would be Manahattan. Spent 27 hours there in June of '02...shot 16
rolls...took a bike tour from NBC studios at Rockefeller Center, all the
way to Ground Zero...shot my best photo ever at Ground Zero...here's a
link to some miscellaneous pics and images...I love to shoot
architecture and perspectives...Manhattan is the greatest city I have
seen for this!

also my old digital stuff and some others http://members.aol.com/montwerx
My favorite shot ever -I kept waiting for this kid to get out of the
way, and later realized I had shot one with him in it...made the shot
bigtime. http://members.aol.com/montwerx/heroes.jpg - I amno longer an
aol member, so not sure how long it will be there.

Hmm... I like doing nature shots. Experience-wise that's all kind of
similar that you are out there with no pressure free to sit down &
change lenses & get in strange positions looking like a freak. Then I
also like street shooting in the city but I'm much more self concious
there, prefering a smaller setup & quicker grabs, trying not to invade
people's space too much.
Is this what you are asking about?
My city shots are mostly in San Francisco and nature shots nearby or out
in the desert and sometimes overseas. As long as it's an interesting
place. Theoretically boring places could provide photo opportunities
though it's harder for me to be inspired. Sometimes I'll bring my camera
and just nothing really looks appealing at all. It's a matter of being
able to find something interesting to oneself and that's possible
anywhere, perhaps.
