Modifying a folding reflector - toning down the gold?

Hi,

I've been looking at folding reflectors, and seen some on eBay that are
a bit cheaper than known brands like Lastolite. So, two questions...

1. Are these non-branded likely to be ok? Has anyone tried any of these
kind of things. - Ok, "you get what you pay for", but I won't be  heavy
user and maybe they are ok for light use.

2. Lastolite do two colours called Sunfire and Sunlite which, at least
according to the examples on their site, give a nicer warm tone, i.e. a
little more subtle, than straight gold. So, if I had a gold reflector
could I maybe glue some strips of silver reflective material (from a
space blanket?) onto it to obtain a similar effect. Has anyone done
anything like this? I'm fairly sure the colour side of it would work as
I want, but would stuck-on space blanket material cope with being folded
and unfolded?

Thanks for any opinions offered (except abusive ones).

I used to use the ones from Larson...supersilver and gold. I loved the
gold, but the damned lab would always try to filter back to neutral.
Should be much better in the digital age.

I guess the only real answer is to try it, but did you find the gold ok?
Ok, you loved it, so the answer must be yes. I'm asking because the gold
example on the Lastolite site seems very 'goldy' and overdone. Do you
think this is accurate?

http://www.lastolite.com/originalreflectors.php
and then click 'Colours available'.

I liked the gold with people outside and particularly with brides by a
window (a la Monte Zucker). You have to get a feel for reflectors and
how to use them properly.

Ok, fair comment. I think I'll get the one I mentioned and go from
there, probably ending up with several.

Thanks,  John
