Hi Gang,

I am after a pocket sized digital camera.

The camera will mainly be used for holiday snaps, especially skiing.  I
don't need fantastic quality ( have a Canon 20D for that) but two or
three things I do need:

1) (most important) is fast ready to shoot time (both at start-up and
between one shot and the next)

2) Good battery life - especially in the cold.

3) silly, I know, but I prefer an optical viewfinder as an option.

I would rather not go for Sony (simply as I don't want another memory
card format to worry about).

Cost is not a particular problem.  Any ideas?

Casio.The Casio EX-Z750...
is an excellent camera at a good price.(maybe $400 or so)

it's 7.2 megapixels   and they have a 5 megapixel version at even a
lower price...

It has superior battery life, fast shooting capabilities and both a
viewfinder and an exceptionally large and bright view screen.

One thing I like is that it also has video capabilites...
and with a 1 gig SD card can take something like 45 minutes of video...
the whole thing is quite impressive.

The only thing I can say though is DON'T drop the thing from 3.5 feet up
in the air on a rock-hard surface like my girlfriend did!!!!
She dropped hers and bought a new one...then I took hers...sent it back
to Casio and for the $100 repair fee...I have one too.

Considering what she did to it the repair fee was quite reasonable.

Considering that I;ve been shooting 35mm and medium format since about
1970...It takes quite a bit to amaze me...and the Casio, since it's so
small it'll fit in a pocket...makes sure one of us always has a camera
with us!
