it. ???

The answer is yes you can, but you probably don't want to.   Compact Flash
cards are far more resistant to the knocks and vibrations a camera can
encounter.

Stay away from the Seagate 8gb, it is a dog with the Canon Digital
rebel.  The Hitachi drives are very good and fast.  I have not had any
problem with them

KLH: What size Hitachi drives have you used? I have a Seagate 5G, and
on two different Rebel cameras, only 3.2 GB or so get written to the
disk before it starts to crap out - writing 0 byte files - after this
starts happening, you can't even review what images are on the card. It
just REBOOTS when you try to either take new images or review what's
there.

I can still see everything on a computer, and push additional files to
the disk - so I don't know what to pin this on.

But if you've used larger-capacity disks, maybe it's a problem with
this 'type' of MD disk.

Thanks,

BD

I have a 2GB Hitachi & it's no problem on a D70 though it's slower to
download to the computer.

Yeah, I expect you're fine - if you'd had a 4G or 5G and told me it
worked perfectly, I'd be verrry curious as to how your setup's
different from mine.

Go solid state.  Avoid microdrives = avoid headaches.

I recently got a very good deal on a 5GB microdrive. It works fine -
but for some reason, it only writes to about 3GB of the disk - after
that point, it takes a much longer time to 'index' the files when
writing or viewing. And, at a certain point it just stops working. It
starts writing 0 byte files, which completely riuns the camera's
ability to review what is on the media. In other words, after a certain
point, I can't write new images, nor can I see what's on the media. I
have to delete the 0 byte files on my computer - after I do that, I can
once again review images on the camera, but I still can't write new
images. The card has been formatted several times.

This symptom has been confirmed on two different Rebel cameras. I still
don't know why it happens.

So if you do this, don't expect to be able to fill the whole thing if
it's 4GB or higher.

Cheers,

BD
