Black circular shadow at the base of my pictures from my new 12-20 mm lens

I just bought this lens for my Nikon D70 and I love it except when I
use the flash (doesn't happen all the time) I get this dark circular
shadow at the base of the photograph. Can anybody clarify this? Does it
have to do with the width of the lens and my needing a separate flash
and not the built-in flash which is reflecting off the lens and
creating this shadow?

Any ideas?

It is probably a shadow of the lens cast by the onboard flash.
When I use my Dimage A200 with it's flash, the lenshood must be removed
or it will cast a shadow that will appear in the photo.
