A few more questions please.  I ran across some "deals":

----------------------------

NEW Nikon D70s Digital SLR Camera w/ 18-70mm Lens.  Has UPC for rebate.
$1100.

New Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital Camera with 18-55 EF-S Canon lens.
UPC was removed for rebate.  $1200.

----------------------------

Are these good deals?  Since Christmas is around the corner, could I
reasonably expect to get better deals in a month or so?

This industry appears to be pretty wild.  Apparently, it's standard practice
for many photography sellers to use bait-n-switch and other scams.  Looking
at vendor ratings in resellerratings is an eye-opening experience.....

Terry,

For new gear, use http://www.bhphotovideo.com as a pricing benchmark.
They're very reputable and close to the cheapest in most cases; if the
"deal" is more than a few dollars cheaper you should be suspicious.
Which leads one to the question of, why not just buy from B&H in the
first place? :-)

It's good that you're checking http://www.resellerratings.com - that's
usually my second recommendation.  And yes, there are some sleezy
tactics out there (particularly from camera dealers) that skirt the
boundaries of legal operation.

Consider whether it's a US warranty on all the parts, if the vendor will
be supportive if you have problems, etc.  And test the heck out of every
feature as soon as you get it - I got a new D70s with one of the LCD
zones stuck "on".  B&H paid for the return and shipped another ASAP.

Hi All,
I recently tried to buy items from Bhphotovideo and was denied the deal. You
see, I live in South Africa and wanted to buy a D70s body and a Flashtracks
and 2 one gig memory cards, but apparently Nikon has stopped that type of
transactions completely. Now I have to buy the D70s body here in South
Africa, which means I will have to pay for the camera body alone what I
would have paid for all off the above.
What makes matters worse is Nikon SA doesn't have stock and will have stock
only in mid November and then they have a back order to fill before they can
even think of selling me one.
Now I ask you is that fair?
My business is loosing money because we are still using film, eventually I
saved up enough to go the steps forward and then I am being Held up by a lot
of burocratic BULL-sh.t!
