Today, my wife and I were out canoeing and shooting the fall colors
with our digital camera. A canon A75 with nothing added. While
shooting some shots of three golden eagles, she picked up the
binoculars and said, "I wish I could shoot what I see now!" It made me
think about my search for a new digital slr camera.
I am looking for one with 8mp and up and I would like to find one which
would let me use my old lenses with the M42 screw mounts on my 35 mm
slr. I hear it is possible to use these on some of the new digital slr
bodies. I hate the idea of doing away with all of this old glass.
Guess it must be the ol' curmudgeon in me that thinks, "If it ain't
broke, then don't fix it."
We would be using the camera for her starting up photography and art
business and for my use for imaging for graphic layouts for books and
the artwork related to it.
As far as the software needed, not a problem as my robot has enough
horses to do what is necessay with the current software. So, please
give me your advice so I can go out and do further damage to the good
name of photography in the future.
Thanks.

When I recently bought a digital SLR camera (Canon Eos 20d) I also wanted
to continue using my excellent lenses from previous cameras. In the end, I
decided to purchase new Canon lenses because of the demands for speed,
quality and convenience. While adapters for some older lens lines are
available, they usually restrict the user to manual focusing. Besides, the
newer lens designs seem to be superior in color saturation, tone and
contrast. It's a tough call, but if you can afford it, go with a set of new
glass.

Try having a look at www.camerashop.in for M42 adaptors... that at least
will tell you what cameras can take the old screw lenses....
At a guess I would say Minolta would be OK as I used to have an old 7000
that could take M42 lenses so maybe one of the new 5D or 7D Minoltas will
do? And you get their antishake that way too..... but they are only 6MP...
but don't get too hung up about the pixel count.
Bear in mind that whatever you select to use with M42 lenses you will have
to almost certainly manually expose.
