Can someone suggest a software program, hopefully free, that is good
for viewing pics (maybe even some tools with it) on the computer. I am
using Irfanview right now, but was thinking there may be something
better.
Thanks!

Picasa is, in my opinion, the best. It finds every picture on your hard
drive, can be set to auto-detect new ones, allows you to import poctures
from your card reader/camera/scanner/etc... and allows basic touch ups,
cropping, file resizing. Additionally you can make instant picture webpages.
It does a ton of other stuff too, photo cd's, backups, etc... AND it's free
(thanks to Google). You can download it at:

IrfanView is the best freeware for pics viewing and editing....
I use it almost everyday.

IMHO: IrfanView is about as good as it gets.

As others have said, Irfanview is good for what you have outlined. What would
you like for the software to do, that it cannot? If you want to do serious
retouching, the Gimp program, also freeware, is good, if a bit clunky. OTOH, I
use Photoshop, so I don't need to look further, except for the occasional
forays into Painter for "natural media" effects.
