Does anyone know if the MB-D100 is compatible with the Nikon D70?
Larry CdeBaca - 24 May 2005 05:28 GMT
No, it's not compatible.
It doesn't have "D100" in the name for nothing! ;-)

You won't find a good description on the nionusa website. Depend on
bhphotovideo.com --

Nikon MB-D100 Vertical Grip/Battery Holder for D100 Digital Camera
The Nikon MB-D100 Vertical Grip/Battery Holder accepts six 1.5V LR6 (AA size
alkaline) batteries or two EN-EL3 Li-ion rechargeable batteries for extended
shooting capability. The MB-D100 Features voice memo recording/playback
function, vertical shutter release button, Command and Sub Command Dials, AF
start button and a 10-pin remote terminal.

MS-D70 Battery Holder for D70

This slip-in battery holder for the Nikon D70 and D70s digital camera holds
three CR2 3v Lithium Batteries. Used as a spare battery holder in place of
EN-EL3 Lithium Battery.
The MS-D70 battery holder is designed for use with the D70 and D70s Digital
SLR only, it should not be used in any other product utilizing the EN-ENL3
battery (D100 Digital SLR or MB-D100 battery pack for the D100). Forcing the
holder into the D100 body or MB-D100 will damage it.

Thanks.  I'm used to the "Jay Leno Chin" feel of the F5, and I'm looking for
something shaped like the MB-D100 to fit my D70.  I love the D70, but
handling feels a little bit off after so much time behind the F5.

I'm just the opposite -- although I love the camera envy the MB-D100 elicits
("his camera unit is HUGE"), the D100 starts to feel like a boat anchor,
even compared to my N80 with its manly battery pack.
Hmmm, I'll tell ya what -- let's trade straight across (kidding).

A Vertical Grip/Battery Pack for the D70 has to be an aftermarket
solution, like http://www.harbortronics.com/detail.php?id=2 .  Or
maybe even it can have a LCD, like these:

There are 2 grips mentioned over at

that might be of interest.
