Can anyone recommend any software for creating slideshows from digital
images, I've heard of Falcon Preview software which is around the £400
mark - any other good / user friendly software that people use ?

If you're wanting to go from digital images to a DVD/VideoCD, I've
been using Nero 6 Ultra Edition.  Quick-n-dirty, but produces good
quality output.  Nowhere near a professional video editing package,
but good enough for putting together DVD slideshows with
crossfades/wipes, background music, and titles.

ArcSoft ShowBiz is not too bad at the job.  When I have shot band phestivals I have used
this software to create a DVD movie of the phestival with the pictures I took and a
sound-board CD.  I'll then use software to extract a 16bit CD quality WAV file from the CD
that I'll use in the DVD.  SowBiz will also allow you to incorporate AVI, WMV, MPEG and
other file formats as well.

Roxio has a product but I have not used it.

My wife and I have been using Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album for a couple of years.  It has
its quirks, but it is easy enough to use.  You can see some of our results at
http://www.users.cloud9.net/~physchem/.  We have also made slide shows in the VCD format
for viewing on a TV through a DVD reader.  Handy for friends and relatives who don't have
a computer, and for showing on a TV screen at parties, etc.

Microsoft is offering a new, free program called Photo Story 3.  You can download it from
microsoft.com.  It has some neat effects, but it also has its limitations.  Try it out;
perhaps it meets your needs well.
