Dear All,
I finally unpacked and set up my Epson R1800 today, following
the tips/links for the new drivers and profiles, although i dont
have any previous prints to compare to the first print I did, which
was very impressive. this was from a 2.2 kb / 2256x1496 pixel jpeg file
that i printed on jessops A3 photo inkjet gloss paper. I only got
127 dpi but depite this its a saleable print.
I know I can go up to about 6mb with my minolta 7D which gives me
about 170 dpi from a jpeg.
However, as I can use RAW, I am after some tips for printing from a
RAW file to getA3+ (13 x 19 inch) prints at the best quality
possable. Do I just look at the file, make any changes I want to and
then press print Or do i need to save it as some sort of File? If
so, what? A TIFF?

How do i get a 300dpi (or more for the R1800?) on A3+/ 13x19 inch
paper?

Advise worded for a fair novice would be of use!

thanks

Simon

Check my math:

300 dots per inch
13 inches by 19 inches = (13 x 300) + (19 x 300) = 3,900 dots  x  5,700 dots
3900 x 5700 = 22.2 million dots

Another way --
1 inch x 1 inch = 300 dpi x 300 = 90,000 dots
13 x 19 =  247 square inches
247 x 90,000 = 22.2 million dots.

Ok, math is right, concept may be faulty.

All that to say is there is no way 6 MP can make a 300 dpi print without
interpolation.
ButI didn't say that a 13 x 19 print would not be pleasing. I print 6 MP
images to 13 x 19 and love 'em.

Tiff or jpeg, dot are dots.

If importing into Photoshop, you get a psd file. You can save it as a tiff
(lossless) or jpeg (lossy).
Google those terms for an in-depth explanation.

Time to try some panoramas and fill those big pages with 300dpi! A 6MP
image only prints 8x10 at 300dpi but I'll bet they look cool bigger. At
this moment, I'm printing a 16 tile poster on legal size 8.5x14 from a
6MP image. I'm doing it on plain paper 'cause I figure it'll show all
the detail anyways at that magnification. Interesting to see what
exactly is there in the image.

It's all about viewing distances, have you ever looked close up at a
billboard? Just big coloured dots.

It was a heck of a lot of work splicing & taping together my big print
(I skipped the top row of just sky so only 12 pages) but it looks very
cool at 62dpi four feet wide.

Reminds me of years ago when I used to take my slide projector up to
the school gymnasium and shoot my slides on the huge blank chunk of wall
between the locker room doors. Cars, people, etc. life size. Mountain
tops covering 20' x 20' of wall. Had a good projector and it held up at
quite a distance back. Was a lot of fun.
