Will that be about a 30mm equivelent on the digital Rebel due to the small
sensor (smaller than 35mm film I mean). The kit lens - 15-55mm was
eqivelent to a 28-70mm on a 35mm I think?

Why shoot black and white? Because it isn't color. Color is for vacation
snaps.

17-40 on digital rebel is (17mm x 1.6 = 27.2mm) & (40 mm x 1.6 = 64mm) [1.6
is the ratio of size diffrenece between 35mm film and CMOS sensor].
So in other words it will be like a 27mm -64mm lens on the Drebel.
Hope that helped.

Yes, thank you. Wasn't sure what the multiplier was.
