This is the first time I'm asking for comments officially, so here's
your chance to "tear it up!" This link

is to some photos I took over the last few days and that I felt were
good enough to submit for comments, for which I will be grateful.
I would also like to ask for feedback on jpg artifacts, if any are
disturbingly visible. I think my monitor may be fuzzing them out a bit
more than some newer models do. Thanks.
BTW, if any of you were around in rec.photo.technique.people a few
months ago when I first asked about how to deal with the groom who
shuts his eyes when he hears the shutter, you can take a look at the
final album that I put together for the couple in the galleries under
"Monika i Piotr." Not the greatest, but not a total loss for my first
try and they were happy ;)

I particularly like 3,4,8 & 9. Picture #1 might be worth revisiting as
there seem to be some artefacts and I can't quite get my head around the
focus.
Image 8, I'm going to repeat myself, I like very much. The composition
breaks some rules then pulls it all back with the tree on the upper left
side. I can't make my mind up whether it is the colours or the
composition I like more.

Thank you, Carl. I had some doubts with #8. My brain tells me that it
should show less grass and include the top of the taller trees, but...
when I stood there taking the shot the colors of the grass and the tree
on the left totally blew the rest away for me. It was really a
beautiful moment. Picture #1 would probably look better as an oil
painting. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to it :)

My eye-scan didn't see any artifacts -- which images disturbed you??

I had a chance to check out my site on an Elsa monitor a few days ago
and saw artifacts right away in a different gallery (Sonya2) that were
barely visible on my monitor. I get some ghosting at 85Hz refresh that
I think might be blurring out artifacts. I've since reduced the
compression of the Jpegs slightly. Thank you for commenting.

I didn't so much notice JPG artifacts as I did the pattern of specs most
visible on 12, 14, and also 08. The pattern is consistent on all three
images. If this is positively not dust on a front filter element and your
camera has interchangeable lenses I would recommend having the sensor
cleaned assuming it's a digital camera. Either way in all cases during lens
changes hold the camera with the lens mount facing downward to avoid flotsam
entering the body. Best case scenario it ends up on the prism glass where
it won't effect the image but is a distraction,..worse case it ends up on
the image sensor where it does show up or in a film camera can scratch the
negative when it's advanced.

Thank you for your comment. It was dirt, and I have since cleaned the
lens. I have also found an interesting article on Jpeg artifacts here
http://jpegclub.org/foveon/index2.html
(and since I use a SD9 I was all the more enlightened) especially the
part about the compression methods used by different programs. I have
now set Irfan view to a better setting (disable color subsampling)
which will (I hope...) make a difference.
