First let me say that I am not in the market for full frame Nikon.  May be
some day, but not know.  This is just a point of wonderment to me.  I know
that Nikon has their DX line of lenses and from what I have read when you
put one on a full-frame camera, it will use a smaller area on the sensor
(reduces megapixels too).  What I wonder about it Tamron's Di and Di-II
lenses.  The former will also work on film cameras, so that makes me wonder
if one was on a full-frame digital, does it treat it like an FX or a DX
lens?  The Di-II seems to be digital only and may act like a DX on a full-
frame.

Typically if it is a lens designed for film it would act like an fx lens.

Di-II are DX cropped lenses, Di are full frame. Longer lenses don't
benefit much from redesign for cropped frame so ideally only choose DX
lenses for the extreme wide angle. Based on that rule, their 55-200
Di-II is probably not much smaller or cheaper than their 28-200 Di

OTOH I got a Nikon 28-200 for my D70 and it was not bad at all but on
full frame it is pretty crappy so it makes sense to buy for what you
really need. Full frame will never be cheap as long as sensors are made
from silicon. I'm glad I only got one DX lens... I kind of suspected I
would go full frame eventually & there was a long time I wondered if I'd
be stuck with a bunch of oversized glass. That has paid off for me but
it has been an expensive direction to take.
