Digital Prints at ASDA (UK supermarket)

Hi all,

I tried a Sony fast print machine at my local ASDA store today, the
bugger decided that what I really, really wanted was a nice yellow cast
on all my finely lit snaps... cue "discussion" with the reprographics
expert in store (er, young bint on nightshift, surely??) who was unable
to proffer advice on getting the machine to print out my photos as they
are rather than how it thinks they should be... it also transpired that
there is no-one in the whole of ASDA UK that one can call to discuss
their printing process and how it might be tweeked.

MyMate (tm) advises that the bigmachinebehindthecounter doesn't do
yellow casts, unfortunately the bigmachinebehindthecounter is unable to
talk USB either so I'll have to fish out my old Compact(hahaha)flash
cards out and try again tomorrow.
Almost unbelievably, the two fifteen stone chavettes getting their
smudges printed off of their phones were unable to help with my yellow
cast issues. Mind, they had a bizarre orange cast in real life so I
suppose they'd look reasonably human following ASDA's autolevelling
algorithm...

What do the rest of the UK do to get decent digital prints?

Either print them myself, or use PhotoBox, got an excellent large
framed print of a picture for my girlfriend a few months back. Photobox
can be a bit on the dark side so probably worth doing some test shots
with them, I think they are still doing 40 free 6x4 prints when you
sign up which I used for tuning.

I had good results with the machine in Boots ages ago - can't remember
what sort it was though, and I don't normally do digital.  I suspect
Jessops is the answer if you have one and aren't ashamed to be seen
there.

Has anyone ever told you that you have a very unpleasant turn of phrase when
discussing women?

Unless you yourself had seen/met these women how do you know that the
description given was not accurate.

Er, no tbh... However, i will try and reign in my sense of humour in
future :-) it struck me as funny at the time though, cos the two in
question were actually not too far off (in RL) of being the colour of my
photo subjects...

IMHO anyone that spends enough time on a sunbed and/or coats themselves
in that liquid tan stuff to get so orange is fair game for a comedy gag,
especially one so far out of their presence; as for the bint jibe, well
yeah that was prolly unkind. Still, fair do's if it has caused offence.
That certainly wasn't the intention.

Then again, this is usenet - the only place in the world were one can
make such remarks without getting raided by the PC Police. Or so I
thought...

live and learn eh.

Don't do PC, it was invented by thickos with no sense of humour.

I have seen many examples of the sort of mingers you were describing
but we call them neds (non educated delinquents) up here and they seem

Illiterate as well as misogynist - what a combination! I notice you were
just as useless at helping the OP with his problem.  'Almost unbelieveable'
indeed.

In terms of what I've said, you'll note that you can respond - in kind, if
you feel it's worthwhile.

My point is that despite Tony B having a valid point to make about the
inadequacy of in-store expertise; there was no reason for him to insult the
machine operator, offensively describing her as a 'bint' (incontrovertibly
on the basis of her gender). This is irrelevant in terms of the story and it
offends and demeans someone who has no chance to respond.

He then decided that since there were two other women there at the same
time, though totally irrelevant in terms of the point he had to make, they
were fair game for an insult too (on the basis of their gender also).

SO what. It is you who is making a mountain out of a molehill and doing
your cause no help.

He was not attacking women but Chaves.  These Chaves happened to be
female (Chavette). You have missed the point because you are bigoted and
are taking one point and twisting. Typical of a bigot.

I'm not making a mountain out of a molehill - that's your role. I'm just
pointing out that the OP made unjustified offensive comments and asking if
anyone has ever let him know that he does this.

20 odd years ago when I smoked cigarettes, I once dropped the cellophane
wrapper on the pavement. A couple of friends pointed out that this was
antisocial and I took note and made sure that all future rubbish went in the
bin. Were they 'PC', I don't think so, but maybe they are 'interfering
busybodies' in your view/

On the contrary - you're just another 'anti chav' bigot , you just don't see
it.

You are taking a comedy moment and making it into something else.  This
is why the comedians and many others were up in arms against a recent
law on this.

They were not. Have you ever seen Harry Enfields Wayne and Waynetta?

As he hasn't been offensive I doubt any one has. What he wrote could be
a sketch from Harry Enfield, the Fat show or Little Brittain

That is not being PC. Dropping litter is something else.

Your original complaint was it was anti female. Your argument is
shifting.

You seem to  have a very sad life.

They were, look up the definition of 'bint'

a woman or girl

The OP accepts it was 'prolly unkind', so why don't you just accept it and
shut up.

It was humour and you wont accept that.  So admit you have no sense of
humour and have, as most PC Police do, gone overboard on something
pointless and just shut up.

Since the carry on films...... Most comedians I know have used the term
on pre watershed TV

It was fairly regular utterance on Monty Python.  That was too early
for chav and chavette, though.

OK, OK.. that's quite enough of that. It was meant to be a kind of
Private Eye type editorial aside. Not a diatribe against womankind... It
was frustrating that Asda chose to run a complext process with a single
untrained member of staff. If that had been a man (it wasn't in this
case) I would have made a similar "funny" reference to him. The orange
twins entered the story because they were funny, not because of their
chromasone arrangements. No-one was actually insulted in Asda. I didn't
actually discuss my print problem with the two young ladies in question
- I merely included them in an attempt to be humourous. Clearly this
failed :-(
Three random strangers were the subject of inapproprite comments in a
usenet post for comic effect. Again, apologies if this has upset you but
if you find that unbearable I dunno how you cope with real predjudice..

PS any ideas on the print problem??

I thought it was a diatribe against chaves.  These chaves just happened

Fair enough.

That is how I read it. They could equally have been chaves. (Male)

The PC Police have no sense of humour. They are so bigotted that they
see a problem in anything and everything.

>Three random strangers were the subject of inapproprite comments in a
>usenet post for comic effect.

That is how I read it. It is how most comedy routines work. Otherwise
90% of comedians would have no material

Don't apologies to the bigot OG

I agree... this sort of PC Police imaging problems where there are none.
They are more bigoted than most of  the people they have a go at.

No that is politically correct. :-)

You mean the respect they deserve.   Most places.

You are confusing an off the cuff comedy moment with something serious.
Most dictators do that.

Update on my printing issue:

Just got my firast batch back (ordered Monday pm) from Photobox - they
are excellent. They are also free (barring £1.50 for postage) for the
first 40 4x6 prints, so from now on it's Photobox for me.

Unless I find out it's a company owneed by an orange woman ;-)

Thanks for the advice,

RACIST, MISOGYNIST,  BIGOT!

You should have said

"orange person, not that other colo(u)rs are unacceptable and equally
nice in their own way. Neither does the word "person" mean exclusively
human being as any other species could own such a business"

Sorry, comedy is not an excuse.... this is why they tried to bring in
the PC bill about racist and religious jokes and EVERYONE bar the PC
Police stopped it.

We all knew that you were referring to when you said bint and Chavette

I know someone who had the same problem at Jessops. He has a calibrated
monitor which he worked from, none of the images from Jessops came anywhere
near. Guess what, Jessops said thier machine was calibrated daily too.

I don't trust high street or online developers, they seem to do what they
want.

Next they will be selling Semi gloss as Matte. Oh they already are!!!!

Avoid.
