Canon EOS Stops Taking Photos

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help. I have a Canon Digital Rebel EOS camera that I
really like. Here's my question. I was shooting at a 1 year old's
birthday party last night in a restaurant (Casa Bonita) and there
where times where the shutter would not trigger. My assumption is that
the camera thought it was too dark or couldn't find any focus points
or something. When I'd press the shutter, I'd see a "Busy" in the
viewfinder and a fully colored circle in the display. I had a problem
with a Sigma lens getting an Err99 but that is off to be fixed and I
can't think of anything related between these events. It's like the
DSLR just goes to lunch sometimes. Oddly powering off/on would no
avail, but I did get a reset removing the battery.

Any help or thoughts very, very much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Tim

One meaning of "Busy" is that it's still writing the previous picture(s?) to
the memory card.

For many cameras, the write speed dramatically decreases when you fill about
80% of a card.  In order to keep the speed up, pop out the nearly full one
and just pop in a new card.

When reading the manual for my A720, Canon had a warning about this problem.
You might want to check your manual to see if it says something similar.

Good Luck,
Dudley

Were you using the on board flash?     Often if the flash is recharging
it will say BUSY

You ask for detailed information but you don't give enough detail of the
problem.  But in general

- With some mode the camera may refuse to continue because it needs more
detail to continue.  Example if point the camera to total darkness, then the
camera can't focus to continue, so the shutter won't work.  And some mode
will take anything.

- Err99, it can be anything.

    - It could be battery issue

    - It could be connecting issue.  You may try to clean the contacts (PINs)
to make sure it has good connection.

And if it only happen once or twice then just ignore the problem and
continue to enjoy the toy, but if it happens so often then you may need to
give more detail.

Then try to find out if it's the battry or the lens and go from there.

Did you try switching the lens to manual focus to see if that fixed it? If
the shutter still didn't fire when the lens is set to MF that would probably
eliminate an inability to obtain focus as the cause of the problem.

Thank you all for your replies. This will give me a lot to try in the
future. Definitely need to get some clean CF cards as well as spare
batteries and realize that the flash takes a while to recharge. The
Err99 was an incompatible Sigma 70/300 Super Macro. I sent that back
to Sigma for re-chipping.

Excellent you guys, thank you very much. I am indebted.

Sincerely,

Tim

It's possible that you asked the wrong question so people give you the
wrong answer.  Yes, I do realize that some Sigma lens may require to be
re-chipped to work on some model of Canon camera, but it's usually older
lens with newer body.  And if I am not mistaken, the 70/300 is pretty new
and re-chipping may not need, or it could be the contact issue?

And Sigma 70/300 isn't a good lens, and yes it's pretty cheap or you can
be able to get it for little over $100-150 or so.  Me? I would use it, but
it's me.

Then again I like Lomos.
