Does anyone know of a photo editing software that is comparable to
Microsoft's Picture It? I've been using it for years, but it's not
capatible with Vista and I'd like to find something that has the same
features. Photoshop is just to user-unfriendly and is missing some
components I used regularly with Picture It.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You could try Corel Paint Shop Pro.  Download a free 30-day
trial from
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1185293041793.
If you like it, look for a good discount or rebate.  I saw
it on sale this week for $39 at buy.com.

You should look at Photoshop Elements. It has much of the power of the
full version, but is far easier to use and a fraction of the cost.
Good luck

He already said Photoshop is _user_unfriendly_ and Photoshop and Photoshop
Elements have the same user_unfriendly_interface <bg>

1) what does PS lack that you might 'use regularly'. I was under the
impression that PS was pretty complete.

2) you might try GIMP. It's free - should only take a short time to find
out if it has what you want. IMHO - it's more intuitive than PS.

You can pick up PSP 9 at give away prices. I believe that will install
and run in Vista with a very minor glitch, do a google search.
FastStone and others are freebies you can try. The general impression of
long time PSP users is PSP 9 was about as good as that product got.
Since I've not tried later versions I have no personal experience, but
PSP 9 is great to use. I'm a believer in reading manuals or books and
your local library will have something on PSP in addition to Elements
and PS. The web has lot's or resources for all three. That extra support
plus forums and ng's is an incentive, it's nice to have a place to go if
you have questions on a specific product.

You don't say what features you want, but you could do worse than trying
these free tools:
