I'm looking for advice on photo-quality printers. Since I use film and
scan, I don't need a printer which accepts a camera directly or which
handles various memory devices (although I appreciate that most printers
do this nowadays). I've got a HP Deskjet for text printing which I've
had for about 8 years and I used to specify and use HP printers at work.
Because I've never had any problems with HP, I tend to favour them.
However, I see from Which? that HP printers are much more costly to run
than Canon. So, what are people's experiences with Canon or Epson (or
HP, of course)?

I wouldn't buy Epson ever again, and I've had a few.
The printer was great when it worked, but splashed ink all over prints.
Cost more in waste than the printer.
Epson (UK) Ltd didn't want to know.
HP are OK but I've never been happy with the paper handling.
Go with Canon, that's my recommendation.

Epson, or HP
have a Canon the spare cartridges are extremely expensive, prints to A3 and
sits unused now.
Meanwhile was given an Epson A3, Photo EX & I pay ?10 for 3 Black & 3 Colour
cartridges, quality is identcal to Epsons own cartridges as well !
Actually check out what consumables cost, are the cartridges common to a
number of of models from the same manufacturer, do other manufacturers
produce alternative cartridges for the model.
I was unlucky my Canon needs Canon's own Photocartridge and it is extremely
uneconomic, although the quality is excellent. It's extremely economic for
non photographic purposes even with canon's own cartridges
Epson are the best, but HP's are more robust.
