Over the last few weeks I have been using my Nikon Coolpix 5000 camera for
some photos that are set in halls, outside buildings and such like - most of
these are low light settings. My problem is that nearly every photo I take
ends up being too dark. I have an example at the site below
http://www.activewin.com/byron/images/too_dark.jpg
Is the flash on the camera not good enough?
Would a Flashgun make any difference for these types of photos. I saw one in
Jessops for around ?40 - is it worth it? I expected to be able to take
better low light photos than this with the camera I have.
Thanks

When I first read this without looking at the pic, I assumed it was going
to be one of those pics involving a huge hall and you wanting to light that
with the little flash on a compact.
However, clearly it isn't on looking.
The pic is obviously taken from all of a few feet away and certainly
shouldn't look like that !
Having said that, though, I've just opened it in Photoshop and then applied
Auto Levels to it - the transformation is a big difference. It's not
perfect but not far off what I'd expect from a digital compact in a
dark-ish place with an on-camera flash.
Have you tried any post-processing at all ?
