Hello everybody, I'm actually new in photography and I just bought a Nikon
F80. I want to buy the nikkor 24-120mm f3,5/5,6 AF-D and I just discovered
there's a new version of it, the 24-120mm AF-S.
Could anyone tell me if this lens (24-120mm AF-S) work well with my camera
and if the lens itself needs a separate battery to make its internal motor
work; if not, does it reduce the life of the camera battery?
Thank you
Dico

Hi Dico,
Yes, no and not so you'd notice.
"S" means Nikon's newer Silent Wave lens and is far quieter and quicker to
focus than the standard "D" lenses.
The catch is that in some of the range the "D" lens has far better optical
quality than the "S".
However, for your question there's a bit more confusion that I think you
have missed.
The "S" lens is actually a VR lens (Vibration reduction lens) and is likely
to cost a load more for no better or worse optical quality than the "D" as
you are paying for the vibration reduction.
So you need to decide on what you are most likely to want to use the lens
for - general purpose - I'd go for the "D"; vritical images in near-no-light
conditions, then go for the "VR" but be prepared to have a soer wallet.
check out Nikon's website and go to brochure request and they can send you
their latest full lens catalogue.
also check the nikonusa.com site - this usually has more details about the
lens range etc.
