Hi all,

I'm looking for a long zoom lens for aviation photography to fit an EOS
300D.  I've looked at the Canon 100-400 f4-5.6 IS USM which seems to give
the sort of results that I'm looking for.  I also see that Canon do a 70-200
f2.8 in both IS and non IS versions which is very highly regarded.

Would I be right in thinking that the 70-200 should give me better results
in the 100-200mm range than the 100-400?

What about the 70-200 with a 2x converter versus the 100-400 in the 200-400
range?

Ignoring the price for now, (and the 70-100mm area) which would you go for?
the 100-400 or the 70-200 and a 2x converter?

I await your thoughts!

Simon

Yes, check dpreview for endlress discussion.

You may mean 2xII. Again, lots of debate.

I have the 100-400 and the 2xII, on a 1Ds. The alternative would be a
straight 400mm lens plus the 70-200. Pay money, make choice. The 300D is a
small camera for any of this stuff: they're all beefy lenses.
