Hi all,

Having finally gone digital, I would like to get a new "ever-ready"
case to suit my EOS 40D with 17-85 lens.

The Lowepro Topload I had for my Minolta XD-7 with its Tamron 28-105
is not only a bit big, but the zip runs round the edge of the top
flap.  Some might find that OK, but I'd prefer a Tamrac-style
semi-covering top flap (with clip fixing), which offers better weather
protection.  But the Tamracs I've tried in my local Jessops and
independent shops are _just_ too small.  They are OK if the lenshood
is stowed in reverse, but not if it's fitted for use.

For the moment I'm using an old CCS bag, which is like a
mini-haversack - room for plenty of extras, but the main bag space is
a capacious cuboid block, with just an adjustable partition sleeve to
locate the camera lens, which I find less than ideal.

Any suggestions?

No specific recs., but you will find it a lot easier to get a case if you
accept that you will have to reverse the hood every time you stow the
camera.

Cheers,

Geoff.

I bought a longer case, and always leave the hood on facing forward.

I think that Canon do make an ever-ready case for the 40D - but not many
shops stock it.

I like the Lowepro SlingShot concept.  What Lowepro is now calling a Sling
Bag.

It has an all weather shield that you can pull out.  You can carry it light a
knapsack or slide it down beside your hip for access.

I don't know if it would be large enough for your needs.

Have a good day.

Interesting - I hadn't come across these.

I'm not sure they are quite what I'm after, but I'll try to find one
in a shop to play with.  I like the idea of having the load round the
back until one actually wants to open up the bag.  And the extra
capacity could be useful.

Thanks - and thanks for the other replies in the thread too.
