We have a customer in the Scottish Highlands who wants to put the
beautiful view from her hotel window on her website so that potential
guests can see them in real time.

Does anyone know where we can source an outdoor webcam which will do
this?

( If replying by mail, please note that all "sardines" are canned.
However, unless this a very old message, a "tuna" will swim right
 through. )

Is that colour? "Night vision" might suggest not.

I'm watching this thread with interest as I also want to rig up a better
webcam looking outdoors. It's not as easy as you might think as most are
designed for indoor lighting only and unless the view is to the north,
any outdoor view is likely to be staring into the sun at some point.

I do have an Axis 205 network camera looking out of one window, with a
couple of polarisers protecting it, but they result in lousy low light
performance. Also, unless you can view the image on a PC right next to
the camera, it can be a serious pain to get focused and lined up.
Unfortunately I can't with mine, which is why it's so crap:

(really will try to get that improved as I'm sure it's got even worse
since I last checked!)
One plus point is that particular model has the server built in, so it
doesn't need to be connected to a computer, just plugged into a network
port.

Don't get a night vision camera unless you want strange daytime colours.
I had one where green grass looked pink. There's no point anyway
unless you can illuminate the view with infra-red light.

IP cameras (i.e. one that is connected to a network rather than via usb
to a computer) such as the Axis ones mentioned are a better idea because
they can upload images to a web host without a pc having to be on all
the time.

Have a look at the network cameras at www.axis.com. I have no connection to
the firm but use a couple of their cameras and am very happy with the
quality of the images. Not especially cheap but they last.

Have a look at the Corran Inn, they have an excellent one pointing down the
road to the Corran Ferry.

It's probably a cunning plot by Highland Council to watch the wheelie bins.

That is what we have in mind but we should like it to pan up and down
the loch from a site nearer the pier.  Would it be possible to have
the camera transmitting over the Internet in real time or is it
essential to have a 15 second delay between shots?
