News in today:

With 2008 being Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture, the TUC
is inviting people to display their own images of working life in the city.

Both amateur and professional photographers can submit their photographs
of working in Liverpool to the TUC’s specially-created Liverpool ’08
website www.unions08.co.uk

Each photo will go onto the website’s photo gallery and will then be
entered into the TUC’s “Liverpool Working Lives’’ photography
competition. The winners in both the professional and amateur categories
will win £150, with £100 going to the runners-up and £50 to those
finishing third.

Plans are being made to exhibit the winning photos and a selection of
the other eye-catching entries at a city centre location during the summer.

Alan Manning, the TUC’s North West Regional Secretary, said that the
competition and the website were an enjoyable way of highlighting
working life in Liverpool while the city is in the international spotlight.

He added: “We want to celebrate the contribution of working people to
this city and its culture. We are kicking off with a project that is
aimed at showing Liverpool at work that is created by Liverpool’s workers.

“At the end of the competition, we will have an exhibition that we will
tour around the region, from the city centre through to Kirkby and
Bootle. Liverpool workers will have created a unique photographic record
of Liverpool working lives.’’

Today (Monday January 14th) sees the launch of both the www.unions08.co.uk

website and the photography competition.

The competition runs until June 13, when judging will take place. Full
terms and conditions for the competition – including instructions on
uploading your photographs - can be found on the website.

www.unions08.co.uk also features news and events pages to highlight what
the TUC and other organisations have arranged for the Capital of Culture
year.

You can always tell a Yorkshire man,
But you can't tell him much.

Actually, compared with most photo contests this is a very responsible
couple of clauses - a model release for publicity, plus a one year
licence to use the image ONLY to promote the contest, and
modification/montage ONLY with the 'consent of the contributor'.

The TUC is being very correct here, not doing it wrong. What else would
you expect them to do?

I agree.  I was actually going to reply to your message to emphasise
how reasonable the conditions of entry are.

Trev's comments are wide of the mark by a long way.

Why do you think he was being negative?  His first words were "not bad".

One does suspect these days that competition organisers get a very good
deal- thousands of pictures to use for a few prizes. But David wouldn't put
something up if it didn't offer reasonable terms to the photographer. He's
on our side and has been for many years (sorry David).
