Silverfast is another option. I used it in the past with a Nikon film
scanner and a different version in a Umax flatbed. Dunno how it compares
nowadays, but it used to be excellent, though pricey - especially when
there was no discount if you needed more than one version.

I've used Silverfast - it used to be bundled with a certain Epson A4
scanner I have.
However, the problem isn't in the raw scanning. The Nikon does the
dumb scanning fine. It is to do with the way the Nikon software
interfaces with the scanner accessories e.g. the bulk slide feeder or
the film strip scanner.
The bulk feeder works OK most of the time but the strip feeder crashes
the software roughly every two scans.
I don't think Silverfast will have the special features for these
accessories.
