Why I'm now going to take most of my pictures in RAW
Hi Everyone
I'm now going to take most of my pictures in RAW + Jpeg. Why? I have
been visiting Cornwall for about 4 years now - I go once in March/Oct then
Jun/July and again in Oct/Nov. Each time I have wanted to go to St
Michael's Mount to photograph the Island. This time I got around to making
the effort. I decided to set my Canon 350d to Raw + jpeg. I'm now more
than glad I did. The sun was in the wrong place in relation to the island
and therefore I came away with about 30 shots that were in my opinion just
under mediocre. Because I had the pictures in RAW format I was able to
retrieve some of the shots into what I feel are acceptable pictures.
Please see < http://djmp.co.uk/slr%201/SMM.htm > for one of the
pictures showing 'straight from the camera' and the other of the same Pix
from RAW and being enhanced with PhotoShop. So now I'm going to keep, most
the time, my camera set to RAW & jpeg. Interested to know if others on the
group have come around to the same conclusion .
Kind regards and happy shooting
DAVE

This is my quick Photoshop work on your jpg. A 1 minute job. Apart from the
lost highlights, which is just a matter of exposure, it's not far off your
raw version.

I agree that shooting RAW is more controllable and will give you better
quality but I generally shoot more JPEGs just for speed and convenience. Of
course for landscapes when you have lots of time things are different.
