Might be of use to someone in the area

jessops are having a closing down sale at The Fort branch (Cheetham Hill
Road, facing B&Q). It's one of the branches being chopped due to their
ongoing problems and there are some bargains to be had. One Nikon
battery grip for an F series was marked down by 80% or so, and they have
some half price Canon printers plus all sorts of other gear.

Worth a look if you are passing.

Jessops are closing shops all over the place, Chester has gone from having
two branches to having none.
Mike.

It was somewhere which was a completely mismanaged operation  but if you
needed something like a blower (because you happened to have lost
yours....IOW me earlier today) it was handy.

Like other companies they will probably go towards a more web-based
operation. I actually spent money at their dot com site recently as they
had a Nikkor VR lens at comparable prices to EBay UK based retailers.
The same lens was listed in the Jessops shops at £130 more.

It doesn't suprise me that they're closing stores - their prices could
hardly be said to be competitive, even when compared with most other
shops (as opposed to Internet sellers). The only thing I've used them
for in recent years is film - and that's almost always had to be ordered
in as they've rarely had what I've wanted in stock (I only by film in
10s as it's much cheaper that way). Their hardware prices are unreal -
I've even seen items on sale for more than current RRP when
manufacturers have reduced their pricing as it seems to take them a
month or more to follow suit.

This was immensely silly.

I bought the lens at web price, it was much more expensive in the shop.

However it gave me the option of collecting and paying for the lens in
the shop at web price, providing I reserved it online. So why cannot
Jessops just sell the goods at that price when it literally comes off
the same bloody shelf!

as it was, I paid online and had it delivered for a couple of quid extra
by next day courier. Same thing not ling ago, except I actually used the
reserve feature to buy a £20 shop item for internet price of £10 and
collected it from a jessops branch an hour later in person.

I have bought two cameras in the last two years, both of which were on
sale in Jessops at well over the manufacturer's RRP.  One was exactly
£100 over, and the other was £70 over.

Jessops have followed the Dixons business model with glitzy high
street shops, ever-deteriorating customer service and ridiculously
high prices.  They don't deserve to survive.

However, thanks to Jessops policy of buying up so many family owned
businesses, they are often the only game in town.

They weren't always this bad.  About 10 years ago I bought a lot of
gear from them.  Their prices were good and their extended warranties
were excellent value.  The 12 month warranty on used equipment was
especially good.

But they got greedy.  Really greedy.  That will be the end of them.
