Any tips on a vanilla (Virgin PAYG) camera with a half-decent camera (and
a way of getting pictures off the camera for free e.g. removable SD card)?

A year and a half ago I bought my nipper a Samsung slider phone which he's
taken some decent pictures on. It was only £50 (but was only on Orange - I
don't know if it could be unlocked) and it takes SDs - that's the sort
of thing I'm looking for but wondered what else might be out there now.

(Plenty of reviews for K800is and suchlike big/rich boys' toys but are
there cheaper alternatives?)

I had a collie like that!

to stay OT phones usually come with a lead to USB, and you can just drag and
drop to your disk or flash drive.

Not on Virgin PAYG :-(
£270 from Currys, or possibly 125 from littlewoods clearance on ebay

Can they be unlocked?

Nice, certainly good enough. The idea is that if I want better I'll lug
out the K100D :-)

unless i'm mistaken the w810i is the k750i in a different case and with
slightly more music based firmware?

You are mistaken.  You're thinking of the w800.

Yes, you can. If you go to CPW, £99.99 with a £10 credit.

Yes, after you spend £30 or more, you can request a Unlock Code from Virgin.

Although, if, as suggested, it is bought from carphonewarehouse, it
could well be an unbranded (and therefore unlocked) handset anyway.

Thanks - I'll give them a try

I don't want it unlocked from Virgin: their PAYG is OK for me (don't get
me started on their rebranded NTL broadband offering though :-))

the k750i takes nice photos too - albeit only 2 megapixel and no real
flash - but then that's why the 800 costs more.
still - it can give nice results.
