I would to take some images using my Canon 300D digital camera for use in a
time-lapse project, Can anyone recomend a Timer Remote Control / interval
timer that will work on my camera, I have looked at Canon's
TC-80N3 model but it looks as though it is not compatible with my camera, I
have also checked out some web sites that give info on making your own but I
would rather buy one commercially made if possible, any help would be very
much appreciated.

I've used a Digisnap 2000 and 2800 from
http://www.harbortronics.com
but only with a compact digicams (Nikon Coolpix). They list cables for a
few other cameras too, but I'm not sure about the 300D.
You can programme the Digisnap via a PC to give all manner of interval
combinations. Out in the field it takes a bit of getting used to. It has
4 buttons, but only one indicator LED, which flashes green or red
depending what it's trying to tell you. It's all too easy to lose track
of which setting it's on - does it think you're trying to reprogramme
it; wake it up; or start a sequence?
But once running, it does the job nicely.
Have you looked at this thing?

If its possible to have a PC where you want to take the pictures then the
RemoteCapture utility that comes with the 300D will do this for you.

I don't know what the 300D uses, but many (most?) Canon SLRs have a 3 wire
link - common, and one each for "focus" and "take". If you can afford both
a TC-80N3 and the appropriate RC for your 300DF, and are handy with a
soldering iron, it would be easy enough to make the TC-80N3 control your
300D. Maplins sell the 2.5mm or 3.5mm stereo plugs and sockets. I knocked
together a 10m extension lead for my EOS 600 in a short time. (There's other
people's photos on the web.)
I also have a TC-80N3 and it's excellent - waking up my EOS 10D day after
day about 1 minute before it was due to take the next daily snap.

Thanks guys, I will consider all your options.

Dear Malcolm,
I am hoping to do some time lapse with a Canon 300D for a Discovery Channel
Documentary on Lightning. I’ve been researching it on the web and came across
this forum.
Would you be willing to give me some more detailed instructions on how to do
this? I have someone who will do the soldering work but would like some more
information.
Could I email you privately outside the forum?
Sorry to bother you out of the blue like this, but any help would be
gratefully appreciated. Please take a look at our website -
www.pioneertv.com to get a better idea of the kind os documentaries we makes
