The first line does say 440D NOT 400D
so I feel it was a reasonable question.
Doesn't the canon web site give an estimate for capacity for memory
cards.
Just multiply by an appropriate factor.

I'm sure scroll is available in your newsreader. Why not try it and check?
>>> 1. How many pictures can I expect on average to get out of the standard

280-360. Varies depending on exposure, flash usage, display settings,
temperature, size of lens, ease of focussing.
>>> 2. How many more if I go for the battery grip?

JPEGs will be about 3MB each, RAW about 9MB

Well as it is twice the bloody size, it'll hold TWICE AS MUCH. What were
you expecting exactly?

Of course, you could do your own research:-

Rich, expecting thanks in vain.

Agreed twice as much in data terms but not quite in picture terms -
usually a bit more than twice as many pictures of the same size.
Part of the formatting of the card puts base information on the card
(directory structure etc) which is lost to pictures. That memory loss
is essentially constant irrespective of card size, so doubling the
root card size will usually result in a frame or so more on the larger
card. My D70s will take 283 at best jpg on 1Gb, but 568 on 2Gb.

But for 2 photos, that is double. You can't be exact with jpegs as they
vary depending on the content.
