I've not used filters since I went digital but apparently I can use
gelatin rear filters  on the 12-24 according to the Sigma website. So
I looked at the cokin site and tried googling sigma rear filter and
havent found any info. Can someone point me in the right direction?
(I used to use grad ND, ND and a polariser).

Hi Mike.
I wonder if the filters are only from Sigma?

Regards,  Ian.

I looked on their site and only found mention of the fact it took rear
gelatin filters.

Try Lee for acetate filters.
Is the rear of the lens threaded to take small filters - like 30mm? The
answer is to buy one of the cheapest 30mm filter you can find, and cut
some acetates to fit.

Sorry - polyester, not acetate.

12-24 sounds great. How does it perform?
I've got a Pentax rectalinear 15mm for 35mm and a 30mm fisheye for the
big stuff, and I love them both.

You'd want to be able to rotate a polaroid, so that's a bit of a
non-starter, and positioning a grad would be difficult. Otherwise perhaps
you can just tack a bit of gel to the rearmost bit of metalwork. Even
Blu-Tack might do.

Some lenses have a springclip on the back to hold a gel, I have a fisheye
like that. It's not obvious until you look close as it's a circular black
metal plate that lies flat against the back of the lens. You have to cut a
piece of acetate or gel to size to use it. Another possibility is a slot
that the filter material can be slid into.

it seems fine to me, including as a true 12mm on a film camera.
Dont suppose a JPEG proves much but this was 12mm on film

Of course its easy to get the sun on the bug eye front element!

It seems to me a better answer might be a way of bodging a cokin
holder on to the front.
