My granddaughter wants a digital camera for her 6th birthday.  It
should obviously be simple to use and robust. We hought of getting the
"Kid-Tough" made by Fisher-Price but this has some bad reviews on the
Amazon web site.  Are there any other possibilities?

Well, possibly, but Neil Barker tells lies so you won't find out by asking
him.

Ordinary camera in an underwater housing maybe - they usually have easy
wipe free surfaces with chunky controls.
